Job Description Details: Grade 21 The Cardiac Monitor Tech Full Time Nights – 12hr shifts 7:00p-7:30a with rotating weekends and holidays. St Peter's Hospital will be working in our newly developed Heart Central.
They will perform a variety of duties involving the monitoring of our patient's cardiac statuses and maintaining cardiac monitoring equipment. They are responsible for identifying and interpreting all rhythm patterns, documenting, recording and reporting abnormal vital signs to RN. Good communication skills needed to maintain open lines of communication with Nursing Units.
A qualified candidate would have: High school diploma or GED, completion of SPH Telemetry Training. Continually observes the cardiac rhythm of patients in the assigned unit. Assesses and reports the patients cardiac rhythm and/or life-threatening cardiac event to medical/nursing staff.
HS diploma required. Validation of competency in dysrhythmia recognition by scoring a minimum of 84% on examination required. Prior work experience as a monitor technician or in medically related field strongly preferred.

Cardiac Monitor Technician
Role Purpose: Under supervision of the Director, and in collaboration with other health care professionals, ensure continuous monitoring of cardiac rhythms by observing cardiac monitors; maintain all records and reports of rhythm strips in accordance with the established nursing standards and procedures.
* Account for all telemetry transmitters at the beginning of each shift. Notify Director of any transmitters unaccounted for. Maintain transmitter log, the locations of each transmitter (BioMed, Spacelabs, etc.) each shift.
Assess and provide input to leadership team regarding supply stock levels/equipment in keeping with patient care needs and cost containment. Utilize time and supplies economically and conscientiously.
Assist with orientation/cross-training of new personnel on the unit. Act as a mentor and/or resource person to new or developing employees.
Maintain and enhance arrhythmia analysis skills by participation in education activities. Provide input regarding personal or unit educational needs.
Handle and operate cardiac monitors, printers, and other equipment properly and carefully as recommended in user’s manual, with the ability to recognize and report wear or malfunction to Biomedical Engineer and Director.
Operate central monitor/work station and accessories in a competent manner. Utilize varied functions and capabilities of central monitor station equipment by successfully completing orientation checklist.
Utilize automated processes and clinical information systems appropriately and efficiently. Assist with general clerical duties as needed.
Provide immediate information to nursing personnel of change in cardiac monitor status. Notify charge nurse, and follow established policy, if nurse does not immediately place patient back on monitor.

Job Summary Assists the Nursing Department in the care of patients by preparing for and assisting with all aspects of cardiac monitoring. Essential function includes informing nurses and appropriate members of the health care team of important physiological and cardiac changes.
