Under general supervision, and according to established policies and procedures, performs and assists in noninvasive and invasive cardiac procedures. Procedures include routine diagnostic cardiac catheterization, interventional procedures (balloon dilations, stent placements, coil embolization, etc.), electrophysiology procedures, tilt table studies, myocardial biopsies, and more.
Responsible for monitoring, recording, generating reports on patients' vitals and hemodynamic data during procedures.
Performs clinical testing on blood gases, oxygen saturations, and activated clotting times according to jointly established policies and procedures, set forth by the hospital's clinical laboratory and pediatric cardiology.
Monitors EKG and pressure wave forms throughout cardiac catheterization procedures. Analyses changes in EGK conduction and rate; intracardiac pressures and keeps physician informed during a procedure.
Maintains a complete record of all events occurring during a catheterization laboratory procedure through the use of on-line computer log.
Ability to read, write, perform arithmetic, calculations, have basic cardiovascular anatomy, physiology, and physical sciences at a level generally acquired through at least two years of college or two years of specialized training beyond high school.
At least one year in a pediatric lab. Two years of related experience is typically required for a person to acquire the knowledge and manual skills necessary to perform the job at its highest standard.
Must have interpersonal skills necessary to allay apprehension and explain procedures to parents and patients in general as well as those with mental and physical handicaps.
Must have sound knowledge of medical equipment used routinely in emergency situations; hemodynamic monitor, EKG monitor, suction equipment, transcutaneous O2 saturation monitor, BP machine, O2 equipment, temporary pacing equipment, code 99 equipment.
Ability to work well under stressful and high pressure situations. Some of our patient population is a high risk and/or are emergency patients. It is strongly recommended that technicians have certification at the level of "advanced pediatric cardiopulmonary life support".
The Cardiovascular Technician I holds shift accountability to provide direct care to patients in accordance with the established Cath Lab policies and procedures , maintains clinical competencies through continuing education; and delegates patient care priorities commensurate with the education and experience of available staff.
Establishes, implements, evaluates and revises as appropriate, the Plan of Care, based upon continuous assessment and interpretation of biological, psychosocial and environmental data in order to meet the identified patient care / significant other's needs.
Demonstrates accuracy in documentation of all treatments, medications, IV therapies, and blood products.
Utilizes a collaborative and interdisciplinary process to provide appropriate patient/family education, based on the plan of care.
Participates in a coordinated process of care, based on the patient's assessed needs, spanning the illness-to-wellness continuum.
Education: Graduate of an accredited Paramedic, LPN, or EMT program
Experience: Previous experience in healthcare setting preferred
Licensure: State of FL as a Paramedic, LPN, or, registry eligible; RCIS within 3 years (Current staff must obtain within 3 years)
Certifications: BLS and ACLS
