Installs and repairs ceramic tile.
Makes general repairs to buildings; winterizes; patches holes.
Repairs roofs and guttering.
Hangs and repairs drop ceilings.
Welds metal for repair and minor construction.
Generally undertakes all repairs that do not involve electrical, HVAC, or plumbing.
Pre -- Opening safety checks performed in both Parks on rides
Performs safety and equipment inspections
Operates a broad variety of tools and equipment.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Ability and willingness to cross-train for other operational departments and work such departments during specific short-staffing periods.

About the Position:
The Facilities Management Department is committed to planning, developing, and maintaining a safe, sustainable, and high quality learning and working environment for the campus community. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as a Carpenter. Under the general supervision of the Facilities Projects Supervisor, the Carpenter performs a full range of skilled journey-level carpentry and related work. Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
Maintains a safe and clean work environment. Maintains records and retrieves data related to work performed using manual and/or computerized record-keeping systems. Provides instruction and lead direction to unskilled and semiskilled assistants.
Installs, builds and repairs internal and external structures including dry wall, ceiling and floor tiles, roofs, cabinets, counters, shelves, partitions, floors, etc. Advises in the selection and storage of building materials. Inspects completed work for conformance with specifications, requirements and compliance with applicable building safety codes and regulations. Other duties as assigned.
Essential QualificationsWork requires thorough knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment used in both rough and finished carpentry; various types and grades of lumber; hand and power carpentry tools; and applicable state safety codes and regulations pertaining to the carpentry trade, including the Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety for the State of California and California State Building Codes. Must be able to build, install and repair structural woodwork, flooring, ceilings and cabinetry; operate and maintain hand and power carpentry tools; read, interpret and work from blueprints, plans, drawings and specifications; recognize and select appropriate lumber types and grades; make rough sketches; estimate the cost, time and materials of carpentry projects; maintain records and retrieve data related to work performed using manual and/or computerized record-keeping systems; prepare standard reports; provide instruction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants; analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations; read and write at a level appropriate to the position; and perform arithmetic calculations as required by the position.
Incumbents may be required to possess a California Driver's License valid for the operation of any vehicle or equipment they are required to maintain and operate. These abilities normally would be acquired through any combination of progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through the completion of a carpenter's apprenticeship program.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
Preferred QualificationsExperience using a computerized facilities management program. Experience as a carpenter in a large complex facility.
License/ CertificationValid California driver's license with a sound driving record, as well as Asbestos certification.
Special Working ConditionsWorks on uneven surfaces, in and around construction sites, and on roofs and other elevated surfaces. Works with hazard containing materials, such as asbestos and lead.
Schedule will vary according to department needs. Occasional early morning, evening and/or weekend hours. May be required to work overtime or an alternate schedule in order to complete assignments. Will carry master keys.
