A Bridge Carpenter is an hourly-rated skilled craft position that will perform tasks involving the construction of forms for concrete footings, slabs, walls, columns, bridge decks and bent caps.
Build job-specific wood forms and assemble commercially-available form systems.
Set and tie steel, as required.
Erect and wreck all forms.
Pour, grade and finish concrete.
Load and unload materials.

Education and Experience. This position typically is not an entry-level job, as it requires demonstrable previous experience as a Bridge Carpenter. Physical Demands. The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by a Bridge Carpenter to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Constant physical effort, including standing, is required during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day. Employee must be able to stand for extended periods of time, and to stoop, bend, and crouch as required to perform Key Duties.
Work is often performed at heights up to 60 feet, requiring the employee to climb ladders, scaffolds and stair towers, often with narrow steps and passageways.
Frequently work with hands extended overhead, sometimes in conjunction with the operation of hand power tools.
Ability to lift and carry, on a frequent basis, at least 50-90 pounds personally, and up to 150 pounds with assistance.
Manual dexterity to hand-carry generators, lumber and other construction materials, forms, power tools, and hand tools.
Capable of operating concrete vibrators for extended periods of time.
Physical dexterity to pour, grade and finish concrete, involving stretching, proper placement of legs, and use of arms and hands in repetitive motions.
Maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities of the construction site, including the activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment, and the movement of mobile equipment.
Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions.
Capable of being certified to enter confined spaces, including climbing into and out of excavations up to 15 feet in depth, using ladders or crawling, as required.
Sufficient skill and visual acuity, under varying degrees of light, darkness, and weather conditions, to provide direction and flagging for operators of cranes with rated capacities of up to 300 tons.
Capable of safely and productively operating a man-lift.
Ability to maintain balance while working on water craft or other surfaces.
The Operator must be able to climb on and off heavy mobile equipment safely.

Bridge and building carpenters perform carpentry work related to the construction, maintenance and repair of bridges and buildings, as assigned under supervision of a foreman.

JOB SUMMARY: This position is located in Jacksonville, Florida. The CEI Senior Bridge Inspector performs quality assurance assessments to ensure that construction matches the contracted services. The CEI Senior Bridge Inspector may lead a team of inspectors on large projects. Confer with CEI Project Administrator/CEI Project Engineer to determine project details, such as plan preparation, acceptance testing, and field conditions evaluation.
Confer with CEI Project Administrator/CEI Project Engineer to ensure that production and staff problems are resolved.
Examine work progress, equipment, and construction sites to compare actual activities to specifications.
Estimate job requirements.
Provide advice on technical construction matters to client, Contractor, CEI Inspectors, and CEI Project Administrator/Project Engineer.
Plan and conduct field surveys to detail project sites and confirm existing conditions.
Perform quality assurance assessments assessing the actual to contracted service, materials, and construction.
Act as a liaison between Company staff, client, and Contractors.
Inspect, sample, and test materials entering into the work in accordance with the plans, specifications, and special provisions for the construction Contract to determine that projects are constructed in reasonable conformity with such documents.
Communicate with Company staff frequently using email and telephone.
OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS:
Complete a detailed daily log of construction and inspection activities.
Maintain a safe work environment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience: 5 years of experience in general bridge construction of which 2 years shall have been in Complex Category Two (CC2) bridge construction project(s) and at least 1 year supervising a minimum of two inspectors with direct responsibility for all inspection requirements related to the project.
CC2 Bridge Structures: Bridge structures that are complex and require advanced designs and construction engineering and inspection. The following structures are classified as CC2 bridge structures:
- Concrete Post-Tensioned Segmental Box Girder (CPTS)
- Concrete Post-Tensioned Continuous Beam (CPTCB)
- Movable Bridges (MB)
- Post-tensioned Substructures (PTS)
As stipulated by Client and may include:
- CTQP Concrete Field Inspector Level I
- CTQP Concrete Field Inspector Level II (Bridges)
- CTQP Asphalt Roadway Level I
- CTQP Asphalt Roadway Level II
- CTQP Earthwork Construction Inspection Level I
- CTQP Earthwork Construction Inspection Level II
- CTQP Pile Driving Inspection
- CTQP Drilled Shaft Inspection (required for inspection of all drilled shafts including miscellaneous structures such as sign structures, lighting structures, and traffic signal structures)
- CTQP Grouting Technician Level I
- CTQP Post-tensioning Technician Level I
- IMSA Traffic Signal Technician Level 1
- FDOT Intermediate MOT
- CTQP Final Estimates Level I
Certifications: Nuclear Radiation Safety
SSPC Course: C-3 (Steel Bridges)
AWS Certified Welding Inspector (Steel Bridges)
Florida Stormwater, Erosion and Sedimentation Control Training and Certification Program for Inspectors and Contractors
Other: Valid Drivers License with an acceptable MVR

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS: Devote rigorous attention to detail and exercise excellent deductive reasoning. Use mathematical methods to identify and analyze problems. Regularly stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects, and lift up to 100 pounds. Will occasionally be required to climb or balance and will frequently be required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. Have the dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other computer components. Have close and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Potential physical activities may include but not be limited to climbing bridge elements and/or scaffolding, working above and around water, moving and using nuclear density gauges, obtaining/moving soil samples, obtaining/moving concrete samples, digging holes to verify depths of material layers, and conducting all associated material tests.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work predominately outdoors in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. Perform under the pressure of unpredictable, stressful, and demanding work. May be required to work extended and/or weekend hours.
Will be required to perform field work in cold, hot, and extremely humid weather conditions that involves visiting facilities, roadways, bridges, barges, construction sites, and remote areas. Must be aware of surroundings and use good judgment to avoid hazards such as wildlife, insects, and reptiles. May be exposed to traffic, heavy equipment, and moving mechanical parts and will be required to wear personal protective equipment during field activities. Must meet Company safety requirements/policies and all other applicable safety regulations/polices (OSHA, NIOSH, FDOT, etc.) during job activities.
