The purpose of the Machine Operator Associate is to package product using a processing machine and other general functions within the packaging department and plant.

Physical Demands and Working Environment:
Physical strength to lift and maneuver 50-60 pounds. Standing, stooping and climbing are regular activities for this employee. Employee must have the ability to navigate throughout the production and warehouse areas unassisted without disrupting regular production activities. Normal levels of eyesight and hearing after correction. Color vision is required. The ability to touch, feel, manipulate fingers and limbs to operate various processing and material handling equipment is necessary. The ability to smell is required, in order to detect levels of wholesomeness and spoilage. This position requires the candidate to be in refrigerated processing and warehouse areas. These areas are cold and wet and exposure to moving machinery and sharp surfaces are a regular occurrence. Monitor product flow from strippers and silos to packaging machines. Clear product jams at stripper and in turners, chimneys and scales. Add cartons and change packaging film. Add containers to case packers. Make operational adjustments to maintain proper machine rates and packaging quality. Perform machine and product changeovers accurately in standard allocated time for individual lines. Add glue and tape. Monitor, operate and changeover code daters, printers and labelers. Monitor and adjust scales to ensure proper weights. Complete required production paperwork to accurately calculate run time, efficiencies and cases produced. Always maintain a sanitary work environment. Ensure that work areas are clean and that Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's) are fully complied with. Accept responsibility for AIB scores in the packaging area. Ensure compliance with all safety programs and maintain hazard free work areas. Responsible for the manufacture of safe, legal and quality product. Must be able to adjust own work schedule in order to maintain a 2-shift operation (may require overtime as operation requires).
Be able to effectively communicate with team members to support a self-directed work environment. Use sound judgment in exercising caution to insure personal safety and the safety of others.

The incumbent will operate, repair and perform general maintenance on form and seal packaging machines.
Job Essential Functions:
Responsible for programming machines using keyboard and terminal for the proper size, weight, codes and dates for each bag produced and run.
Verify set up of machine; verify that the machine has been properly put back together from sanitation crew along with scales and their proper function.
Maintain a clean and organized working environment.
Ensure that the products are safe and meet the customer specifications.
Communicate quality issues of raw product or finished goods to the appropriate personnel.
Responsible for machine set-up, general machine operation and changeovers.

Packaging Machine Operator
The Packaging Machine Operator is responsible for setting up and operating assigned packaging machines and statistical weighers, in order to pack the optimum number of quality packages of product.
Set-up and operate multiple packaging machines to ensure accurate code dates and weights and that the correct product is put into correct bags.
Ensure that each bag is properly coded, dated and sealed with a minimum amount of wasted product and supplies.
Responsible for ensuring that the product to be packed remains clean.
Keeps assigned machines and area clean and safe.
Perform basic preventative maintenance on packaging machines, to include cleaning and changing knives/blades, pull-belts, tape machines, and rollers
Clean and sanitize lines during changeovers from one product to another

Secondary education via a technical college in the fields of Industrial Systems, Manufacturing Operations Technology, Engineering Technology, Electrical Systems Technology or similar degree programs is preferred.
Additional preferred qualifications would entail previous work experience with filters, labelers, packers, sealers, experience in operating a forklift, CIP experience, good mechanical skills and understanding of machinery and a willingness to work on the packaging lines as a part of the packaging team. A passion for, and working knowledge of, the brewing process is preferred.
