LIB Cathode Material Solid State Synthesis Team Leader (1801203) – Beachwood, OH Formula for Success: You Will… Plan and coordinate the synthesis and characterization of lithium ion battery (LIB) cathode materials. Be responsible for the overall function of the calcination/solid state laboratory and co-manage the work flow in the Pilot Plant.
Develop new cathode material design and synthesis approaches, conceive and implement predictive models of cathode performance, hold responsibility for cathode materials scale-up, and coordinate the refinement of the synthesis parameters with colleagues in R&D LIB laboratories worldwide. Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You… Ph.D. in Materials Science with 3 years of related experience; OR a Master’s degree in Chemistry with 5 years of experience; OR a Bachelor’s degree with 7 years of experience, exhibiting strong organization and supervisory skills. Hands-on experience with laboratory and pilot scale synthesis equipment.
Familiarity with high temperature processing of LIB cathode materials and unit operations. Possess in-depth knowledge of research principles and techniques with proven ability to work outside the incumbent’s field(s) of specialization. Strong managerial and/or technical leadership skills required.

We are looking for talented staff to present award-winning science, tech and maker curriculum in elementary classrooms, plus support our year-round marketing efforts. Lead In-class Presentations (ICPs) and/or After School Programs (ASPs) at various schools and locations around the Sacramento Area.

The Sample Maker must have good steel and plastic fabrication skills including use of brake presses, welding and finishing experience. PURPOSE: Must have Completed a Mold Maker or Tool and Die Maker state apprenticeship program. Design, build, rework, maintain, repair and troubleshoot all forms of tooling (including dies, tools, gauges, fixtures, and molds).
JOB DESCRIPTION (DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES):
Determine the best method to manage and complete a project by a designated due date.
Interact with QA, production, R&D, manufacturing, and maintenance to provide solutions.
Maintain accurate documentation of tool modifications, repair, preventative maintenance and individual work performed throughout the shift.
List, monitor, maintain, and occasionally purchase components for new tool builds or repairs.
Capable of creating a repeatable setup and working to tolerances of +/-.0002" routinely.
Coordinate work assigned through various auxiliary work centers and equipment as required
Occasionally assist operators and maintenance with machine or processing issues.
Validate the quality of work following standard machining practices and using available measurement equipment and inspection resources.
Effectively communicate with other personnel and educate apprentices in best practices.
Adhere to all written specifications and ensure compliance with all standards.
Required Completion and approved Mold Maker or Tool and Die Maker state apprenticeship program, also must have a High school diploma or equivalent required along with
Proficiently operate all common machining equipment, mills, lathes, grinders, etc.
Work as a team lead as well as a team member depending on the departmental workload.
Awareness of OSHA and EPA laws and regulations as well as the Company's Plant Rules and Regulations that pertain to this job.
Time management skills and the ability to work to deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Proven analytical and troubleshooting abilities as well as a high degree of mechanical aptitude.
Work from design prints, sketches, sample parts and oral instructions.
Moderate hand dexterity is required for this position and the ability to occasionally lift 75 lbs.
Personally possess basic inspection and machining tools to effectively perform job.
Available to work second shift, overtime and weekends as required.

Model Maker I
Under general supervision, the Model Maker Apprentice assists the Lead Model Maker with fabricating mechanical parts and fixtures, of varying degrees of accuracy and complexity, which are used to build mechanical, electrical, or acoustical subassemblies and prototype models.
Under guidance of the Lead Model Maker, learn how to safely operate the equipment in the Model Shop, and how to maintain a safe work environment.
Under guidance of the Lead Model Maker, learn how to operate the fabrication equipment in the Model Shop to produce the desired quality and accuracy for the prototype parts being requested. This will include formative processes such as equipment cleaning or material preparation, in addition to the proper techniques for fabricating prototype parts.
Fabricate prototype parts from raw stock materials working primarily from 3D CAD files, but also from blueprints and sketches, and with supplemental verbal and written instructions from the Lead Model Maker. Part quality must meet the expectations of the Lead Model Maker, who will determine the appropriate quality level based upon the customer need.
Assemble prototypes and mock-ups to simulate new product appearance.
Assist with the construction of tools, jigs, and fixtures for assembly and manufacturing needs to support product development prototyping needs.
Under guidance of the Lead Model Maker, learn to interpret engineering 3D and 2D CAD data, specifications, sketches, and drawings.

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Advanced technical school training preferred.
0 to 2 years of experience working on assignments that are semi-routine in nature, requiring limited judgment.
Eagerness to learn model making from an experienced model maker, and a willingness to do so from the ground up.
Experience operating typical model shop and production equipment such as a CNC milling machine, lathe, etc.
Knowledge of manufacturing processes and engineering standards.
Familiar with computer software applications such as 3D CAD (Siemens NX preferred) and tool path generators (Siemens preferred).
Ability to learn and apply company policies and procedures to assigned tasks.
Ability to follow established procedures on routine work; requiring detailed instructions only on new assignments.
Able to work in a group and individually.
Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office computer applications desired.
