Materials Research Scientist (Energy Storage & Distributed Resources)
This role will engage in research on integrated platforms for automated materials discovery by combining high throughput computational materials science, automated synthesis, automated characterization, and data based methodologies to accelerate all three processes. What You Will Do: Apply knowledge in high-throughput materials design relevant to the Materials Project Center mission.
Develop novel functional materials based on high throughput computational material science. Translate theoretical discoveries into experimental synthesis and characterization regimes. Experience in a variety of material science characterization methodologies including SEM, TEM, SIMS, XPS, RBS and NRA. Experience in coding, maintaining and executing workflow infrastructures handling high-throughput first-principles computations as well as database designs for storage of materials property data. Experience in designing and developing control systems for experimental infrastructure to enable automation and data aggregation.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and experience with oral and written presentations of scientific work. Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and organize data for publication and presentations. Strong record of scientific publications.

Job Summary The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), the world’s leading research and development laboratory for renewable energy technologies, is seeking to hire a post- doctoral candidate in materials, chemical or physics engineering or a closely-related field of study. The candidate will work with other engineers and scientists in the Thermal Sciences Group within the Buildings & Thermal Sciences Center.
The primary responsibility will be conducting research and development activities in support of the Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) Program (see www.nrel.gov/csp ). The candidate will join a team of engineers and scientists studying solar thermal power and thermal storage technologies. Work carried out will support research and development activities within the CSP Program that are conducted internally at NREL and externally by industry and university participants. The candidate will work under direct supervision on assigned activities.
Duties This position requires advanced understanding of materials thermodynamics and familiarity with CSP molten salt thermal technologies and applications, especially ceramic materials (refractory/insulation) compatibility with molten salts at temperatures higher than 540°C. Work responsibilities will include studying thermal insulation models, researching potential modifications of thermal storage designs, and optimizing the new design and operation based on minimizing thermal losses. The successful candidate will have completed coursework or have demonstrated experience related to thermodynamics, heat transfer, materials chemical compatibility, and mechanical integrity of refractories (monolithic, bricks, or cements). Assumed responsibilities include close attention to documenting work in detailed technical records, maintaining clean and safe work conditions, conducting work with the highest professional standards, publishing peer-reviewed papers in high-impact journals and presenting results in technical forums.
Requirements This position requires a Ph.D. in Materials Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Physics Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field of study. Demonstrated experience testing and researching chemical compatibility and mechanical stability of ceramics and metals, experience with design and operation high temperature storage systems is preferred.
Understanding microstructural and chemical changes in refractory ceramics is preferred. Demonstrated experience with high-temperature, controlled atmosphere testing set-ups is also preferred. Familiarity with concentrating solar power cycles (e.g., steam Rankine cycles, supercritical carbon dioxide Brayton cycles) is beneficial.
The successful candidate will have a track record of research and publications. The candidate must demonstrate a research capability to solve challenging problems, have excellent interpersonal, communication, writing and documentation skills. Description Volt is currently hiring Order Pullers for Manteca, CA. working in a cold storage environment working Graveyard 8:00 P.M.- 4:30 A.M. Compensation $12.00 an hour. - As an Order Picker, you assemble customer orders from storage or inbound shipments to a standing area for outbound loading. This is a highly active role which requires you to work safely, accurately, and efficiently to meet customer needs. Your responsibilities include:
Identifies pick ticket and determines items to be selected and stacked on pallet for staging.
Keys pick quantities into computerized scanning equipment to update inventory.
Operates pallet jack to assemble orders and deliver to staging area, done in safe and efficient manner.
Marks materials with identifying information.
Opens bales, crates and other containers.
Records amounts of material or items received or distributed.
Weighs or counts items for distribution within plant to ensure conformance to company standard.
Arranges stock parts in specified sequence for assembly by other workers.
Fast paced work environment with, in and around industrial machinery.
Cold storage environment. Warehouse bays are kept at a constant 32 degrees (and below zero in certain areas). Ability to withstand cold storage temps for extended periods of time (warm gear provided by company).

Windows Storage Management Engineer

Provides tier two support and implementation services for storage, virtualization, monitoring, and backup technologies across the enterprise
Resolves and appropriately completes assigned cases and change requests and acts as an escalation for support issues
Applies new solutions through research and collaboration with team and determines course of action for new application initiatives
Implements new software solutions as required by the business
Platform infrastructure technology duties include enterprise VMware ESX/vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, and backup solution architecture management and support for enterprise-wide initiatives
Required Skills and Experience
- Minimum of seven years technology experience
- Minimum of five years experience in Storage management or administration
- Minimum of five years experience (at least 2 years in a senior position) managing or administering VMware vsphere in multi-cluster and/or multi-data center environment
- Experience with Windows PowerShell (or other scripting/automation experience) is required
- Experience with VMware SRM is desirable
- Experience with HP 3par is highly desirable
- Experience with EMC is a plus
- Experience with Brocade switches and zoning
- Experience with HP and Dell Servers and Direct Attached Storage
- Experience with CommVault (or other Enterprise backup product) is desirable
- Experience with Hyper-V and/or SCOM is a plus
- Experience or familiarity with Linux and/or AIX is a plus
- Process experience with ITIL and SCRUM
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Determine application and infrastructure needs for project or initiative
- Develop an implementation plan for all related activities, including contingency plans
- Support business restructuring activities, including new sites and relocations either remotely or on-site as required
- Install, configure and document new software and services as dictated by the project
- Coordinate project activities with project managers and other team members
- Create training materials and presentations for the support organization as needed
- Provide second and third level support and maintenance of the Platform supported infrastructure environment and all related technologies, including virtualization, hardware, software, and storage
- Serve as the first line of escalation support for domain technology issues that cannot be resolved by tier one and two server support
- Act as an on-call agent for team in specified rotation
- Identify, diagnose and correct problems related to the operating system, software, utilities and hardware
- Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups
- Install, configure, and maintain operating system software and third party software utilities for hardware systems within company operational guidelines
- Create and maintain system documentation for domain technologies, including installation, configuration, and appropriate troubleshooting steps
- Improve existing processes through solutions to recurring problems and enhancements to existing solutions or documentation
- Research new technologies for implementation across the enterprise
- Monitor group incident and request queues, alert notices and other work request streams for new notifications
- Complete support incidents and change requests within pre-defined service level agreements
- Regularly communicate status of incidents and requests with customers and key stakeholders via e-mail, phone and face-to-face as dictated by the severity and circumstances of the incident
- Maintain updated documentation of all in-progress and completed requests in appropriate systems as required by team management
- Appropriately escalate incidents and requests using pre-defined processes when required
- Enterprise and Data Center experience (250+ servers/virtual machines)
- Knowledge of Storage Area Networks, Fibre Channel infrastructure, Virtualization platforms and backup technologies
- Perspective and experience with enterprise infrastructure and technology inter-dependencies
- Allocate/de-allocate SAN storage for servers in the Data Centers and remote locations, working with Application, Database and System administrators to determine requirements and appropriate Tier of storage
- Maintain schedules for Enterprise backup system
- Participate in Enterprise Storage, Virtualization and backup capacity planning and overall architecture. Assist with the tracking of actual utilization and forecasted utilization
- Assist Application, Database and System Administrators with application/system specific disaster recovery plans and implementation and testing
- Basic Knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server
- Project planning and coordination. Develop Work Plans, coordinate the activities of project resources and other related IT groups on projects
- Strong aptitude for problem-solving and the ability to resolve complex issues while retaining a strong customer service focus with little or no assistance

Team Lead, Storage
Interacts with supervisors to assist in the operational aspects of the DC workflow. Helps guide team mates on daily tasks while working with limited direct supervison. Handles cartons in accordance with business needs by performing pallet picks, case picks, pallet building and putting cases on the conveyor. May be required to operate all powered equipment within their area of responsibility.
Key Areas of Responsibility
- Ensures predetermined Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and production goals are met.
- Seeks ways to continuously improve processes and communicates/provides feedback to supervisors on a regular basis.
- Handles materials manually and with the aid of both non-powered (pallet jacks, hand trucks) and/or powered equipment (walkie, reach truck, 589 transloader, counterbalance).
- Performs other duties as assigned to meet business needs.
Profile & Core Competencies
- High School or Technical Diploma preferred
- 1-3 Years of experience preferred
- Demonstrated leadership skills required
- Prior warehouse experience preferred
- Basic Warehouse Management System (WMS) experience preferred (RedPrairie, etc.)
- Prior experience operating Radio Frequency (RF) equipment, i.e. scanners, etc.
- Strong verbal and written communication required
- Hearing is required in order to hear instructions, safety warnings, and equipment operations
- Vision is required in order to operate a RF keyboard and/or scanner, and to complete required data entry
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English language effectively
- Must be able to work in a team based environment
