A Cement Finisher does skilled work in mixing, placing, and finishing concrete; and may be required to act as a lead for and work with a small crew.
Four years of full-time paid experience with the City of Los Angeles in a class at the level of Cement Finisher Worker performing duties in mixing, placing, and finishing concrete surfaces; or
Completion of a recognized apprenticeship as a cement finisher; or
Four years of full-time paid experience as a cement finisher helper performing duties in mixing, placing, and finishing concrete surfaces.

Some positions may require a valid Class B driver's license and valid medical certificate approved by the State of California Department of Motor Vehicles, prior to appointment. The examination score will be based entirely on the interview. In the interview, emphasis may be placed on the candidate's experience, training, and professional development as they demonstrate knowledge of: symbols and terminology commonly used in construction; methods of concrete construction, remodeling, repair, placing and finishing, or reconstruction; methods of preparing and using mortar and grout; using calcium chloride, curing compound, retarders, accelerants, and coloring agents; techniques for mixing concrete; form construction and alignment; methods of imparting a particular finish to concrete by means of brushes, brooms, wood float and steel trowel; methods and techniques necessary to successfully build curb ramps; various code books and their uses to ensure compliance with current City codes and standards; and the ability to: assess mixes for particular characteristics by visual inspection; use tools and machine for building forms in the field and to prepare, spread, and finish cement; perform math such as calculation of square footage, cubic yards, fraction, and decimals; and other necessary skills, knowledge, and abilities.

Reporting to the District Service Line Manager (DSLM) - BU Cementing as a member of the Cementing group, the Supervisor 1 - Cementing will be accountable for the welfare and operational excellence of their crew and equipment maintenance and repair. • Inspect all personnel, equipment, rig in and final pre-job fluid test and chemical volumes to ensure they meet company and customer requirements
• Record all rates and pressures on the appropriate form(s) per company policy and procedure and applicable regulations
• Demonstrate skill in performing all the necessary calculations to complete the job
• Participate and collaborate in equipment maintenance and repair and ensure all equipment is inspected, properly configured and meets or exceeds treatment requirements
• Verify equipment gets spotted safely as well as any third party equipment relative to treatment and observe the equipment and crew to ensure unsafe conditions do not develop in relation to treatment
• Validate that all paperwork is kept up to date including log books and pre/post inspection and guarantee that tickets are filled out accurately and completely
• Maintain units, up to regulatory safety standards and inform management when repair work is outside of Supervisor’s level of authority and/or area of expertise
• Complete other duties, special assignments and projects as required
Previous Experience and Competencies:
• Completion of secondary school is required or equivalent training and/or validated skill set
• Certificates in all applicable safety training and regulatory courses as mandated and possess a Class 1 Driver’s License
• Minimum of zero to one year of supervisory experience and three plus years of experience in area or related area
• Demonstrated self-motivation and ethical behavior including professionalism and respect
• Ability to generate alternative solutions and make a decision about which course or action to follow to resolve a problem
• Proven ability to work and interact well with others including communicating with people who have a variety of different outlooks, personalities and backgrounds

Responsibilities / Duties
Class A CDL required
Tanker endorsement is a plus
Must have reliable transportation
Must be available 24 hours a day while on-call
Working conditions may include working days, nights, weekends, 24-hours, holidays
Must be able to climb ladders or climb onto equipment
Must be able to lift 50 pounds safely, and lift 25 pounds safely over your head
Working conditions may include standing on your feet for extended periods of time, or sitting for extended periods of time
Squatting and bending over
