The Cemetery Maintenance (Full Service) role is responsible for assisting in the interment of decedents and the overall physical appearance and condition of the grounds and facilities by performing a wide variety of tasks and duties, including the following:
Receives and executes daily work orders in a timely manner.
Completes preparation and closure of interment site in a timely manner and in agreement with client family expectations and policies and procedures of the individual businesses.
Installs, restores, and/or resets markers and monuments in accordance with work orders and company guidelines and state regulations.
Receives and executes daily assignments to maintain grounds, paths, and driveways according to weather and cemetery's maintenance schedule.
Completes scheduled mowing, trimming, pruning, and watering of the grounds.
Uses power tools to trim hedges and remove dead tree limbs.
In appropriate season, prepares soil, plants, mulches, weeds, and removes leaves. In winter months, plows paths and driveways and shovels snow to clear public areas.
Picks up and disposes of trash and litter from grounds.
Performs minor maintenance, lubrication, and cleaning of power equipment. Refers more serious problems to a mechanic.
May be required to assist in loading and unloading of supplies, equipment, and/or merchandise.
Identifies and remedies all hazards at location and on grounds.
Performs other duties as assigned.

3 to 5 years of experience working on a grounds crew, either at a cemetery, a golf course, or a commercial landscape business.
2 years of experience using and maintaining equipment including vehicles, mowers, trimmers, backhoe, etc.

We currently have a full time opening for a Maintenance Worker at El Camino Memorila Park in San Diego, CA. Prepares crypts for entombments.
Installs grave markers, bronze memorials, crypt faces, etc.
Maintains and repairs existing markers and other cemetery features.
Assists with setup for openings and closings for interments, entombments and inurnments.
Under supervision, may operate backhoe to dig graves without damage to surrounding vaults, markers or monuments.
Operates equipment in a safe and careful manner to avoid damage to cemetery property.
Maintains, services, cleans and properly stores equipment.
General maintenance of facilities and vehicles.
Cleans and maintains facility to include performing minor repairs, painting, etc.
Arranges chapel for services.
Washing and cleaning all funeral home vehicles as required from time to time.
May assists in loading and unloading of caskets.
May assist in moving and installing vaults.
Observe safety rules and ensure compliance with the operating procedures of corporate, federal, state and local regulations, including OSHA regulations and Safety and Environmental guidelines.
Performs other duties as assigned

Ability to operate hand-held tools and equipment, including, but not limited to a shovel, pick, rake, sledge hammer, lawn mower, weed trimmer and leaf blower

Due to the mission of the National Cemetery, the cemetery cannot be closed for more than 2 consecutive days at any given time. Additionally, when a Federal holiday falls on a Monday or Friday, staff may be required to work on that holiday or a Saturday. All staff is required to work Memorial Day each year.
Staff will be required to work overtime, weekends and holidays when necessary to meet the needs of the cemetery. Occasionally staff may be called back to the facility to perform emergency overtime work.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Performs responsible semi-skilled work in a variety of construction, maintenance and repair assignments involving the use of specialized tools and equipment; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision.
