Associate Vice President, Development
Reporting to the Senior Vice President (SVP) of Development, the AVP is responsible for the overall management of the major gifts program, which is charged with managing relationships and securing support from the highest capacity donors and prospects. The Major Gifts team cultivates integrated philanthropic relationships focusing on the Annual Campaign, multi-year gifts, endowment, planned giving and the Donor Advised Fund program. The AVP manages a personal portfolio of approximately 75 prospects and donors and is responsible for managing the Major Gifts team. He or she is also responsible for developing and implementing a plan for advancing multi-year current use gifts and endowment support. This currently includes raising unrestricted funds as well as funds that enable us to both sustain and expand its strategic priorities. The AVP will be part of a Senior Development Team responsible for the overall management of the Development Department under the leadership of the SVP.
· Develops, manages, oversees, and implements strategies for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major donors and prospects for the Annual Campaign, multi-year gifts, endowment and planned giving.
· Manages the Major Gifts and Next Generation teams.
· Works closely with SVP of Development and in partnership with senior members of Planning Department to ensure the successful collaboration between Development and Planning.
· Works with colleagues in helping to shape designated giving opportunities and strategic priorities as well as on the operations, reporting and successful realization of designated giving fundraising goals.
· Solicits gifts directly and prepares other senior colleagues, the President, Executive Vice President, or volunteer leadership for such solicitations.
· Develops and proposes strategies for stewardship of major donors and solicitation of major gifts.
· Determine and monitor ongoing relationships with prospect/donor; recommending specific purpose and level of gift; identifying those to be involved in cultivation, stewardship and subsequent solicitation; assuring that solicitations are carried out.
· Develops and implements programs for Major Gifts staff professional development to foster a workplace of choice for major gifts professionals.
· Develops and implement program to track donor stewardship. Works closely with Senior Development team colleagues to insure effective coordination of effort with their programs and to reinforce the prospect relationship continuum.
· Oversees the major gifts operation including developing overall Major Gifts goals, metrics, estimates, pace/status updates, etc. to help MGOs successfully advance their individual donor portfolios.
· Keeps current on programs and initiatives and network with members of the Boston business and community.
Bachelor's Degree required.
Master's degree in business or public administration preferred.
7-10 years of individual major gift fundraising,
2 or more years of progressively responsible management experience required.
Experience with planned giving, endowment, and managing diverse constituencies preferred.
Demonstrated leadership and the ability to successfully manage multi-functional areas.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Capacity to manage and organize confidential information.
