This position is responsible for a variety of engineering duties, including design of new plants and upgrades, continuous improvement of current production processes, management of small to medium size capital projects and evaluation of new technologies. This position will be a technical expert in the process chemistry and production processes at REG facilities.
Look for ways to optimize plant processes and implement changes to enhance plant profitability
Assist plants with debottlenecking, troubleshooting and investigating quality excursions
Support efforts of plant start-up crews and support teams as needed, providing on-going technical support with an emphasis on minimizing down time and maximizing plant efficiency
Train personnel on proper techniques in operations, equipment operations, equipment maintenance, testing, and other areas as necessary
Provide technical support and perform audits of safety, quality and operations management systems

The position involves working in the Materials and Processes Lab as the lead for Metallurgical Analysis, Plating, Chemical Cleaning, Heat Treating and Special Processes. Analytical techniques such as wet chemistry, micro-sectioning, microstructural identification, SEM/EDS, XRF, XRay, tensile and compression testing, digital imaging microscopy, and micro-hardness will be used for determining the root cause of failures or to implement material or process changes internally or by suppliers. Material or supplier obsolescence is not uncommon and involves working on process variables with engineering, quality, and operations to validate new suppliers or improve process variables.
Materials and Processes is a service group, and a Center of Excellence for United Technologies Aerospace Systems and as such requires interaction with the various internal customers, other United Technologies facilities (for whom we regularly perform failure analyses), customers and suppliers.
In addition to M&P responsibilities, the candidate would be the Engineering Lead for the plating and heat treat departments at the site.
