About the Position:
The 20th CBRNE Command (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and High Yield Explosives) is the higher headquarters for the majority of Army's CBRNE and explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) units assigned to US Army Forces Command. CBRNE Analytical and Remediation Activity (CARA) deploys trained and ready analytical scientist and technicians to support combatant commanders, military installations and provide military support/assistance to civil authorities to detect, identify and characterize chemical, biological and explosives evidence to support intelligence, investigative, mission planning, remediation and consequence management activities directed at the elimination of weapons of mass destruction. CARA is designed to respond as a modular, flexible set of capabilities that can be rapidly configured for mission specific measured response for programmed and immediate response requirements.

Conducts vulnerability assessments of selected routes, identifies potential hazards and maintains positive control (Chain of Custody) of the cargo without exception.
Services, operates, and calibrates automatic chemical and radiological detectors utilizing training and reference publications in the accomplishment of basic assignments.
Participates in the operation of fixed and mobile facilities used in the handling, characterization, assessment, and destruction of chemical and biological munitions and related items for both long and short term remedial missions.
Discusses with senior technician the requirements for various missions and operating areas to include such aspects as instruments and equipment, preparation, pick-up and delivery.
Participates in the preparation, training, and execution of documents related to emergency contingencies, notifications, and response to chemical incidents or accidents during packaging and transportation.
Assists with the setup of temporary weapons of mass destruction (WMD) characterization and assessment sites in the public domain, Formerly Used Defense Sites (FUDS), and DoD Installations.

The Chemical Engineering Research & Development Department (CERD) is seeking highly motivated individuals who are looking for an opportunity to work in a fast-paced job that provides a high degree of technical and project management responsibility. Under scientific and administrative direction, incumbent carries out independent research which involves conceiving, designing, planning, and implementing advanced studies aimed at achieving research goals related to process development, technology development, and production of active pharmaceutical ingredients (API). In this capacity, the incumbent is expected to make scientific contributions to research programs of major importance to the Research and Manufacturing Divisions.
This position is largely hands-on with process development/scale-up work performed at scales spanning the range from laboratory scale to commercial manufacturing scale. The candidate may also have the opportunity to manage development and/or manufacturing activities at external suppliers.
A high level of innovation, creativity, and self-initiative along with the ability to plan and organize activities are expected. Strong communication skills are also critical to success in CERD because engineers are required to communicate regularly, clearly, and with confidence as they discuss technical problems, provide oversight to pilot plant operations, and interface with cross-functional colleagues/customers.
Education Minimum Requirement: The position requires either a BS and/or MS in Chemical/Biochemical Engineering from an accredited college/university plus at least 5 years of relevant work experience in process development, or a PhD in Chemical/Biochemical Engineering from an accredited college/university. For all degrees received, a cumulative gpa of 3.5 or higher is required.

For BS/MS candidates, at least 5 years of relevant work experience post-graduation, where relevant work experience may include any of the following:
Experience performing lab-based research/process development in a chemical engineering-related area.
Experience with process scale-up and/or technology transfer, moving from laboratory to pilot plant or production scale.
Experience applying statistical experimental design (i.e. Design of Experiments) and/or process modeling
Direct experience with pharmaceutical drug development Familiarity with concepts and application of cGMP during pharmaceutical development and production.
Experience with chemical engineering-related technology development
