Hands-on experience in standing up bioreactors for the cultivation of vascular grafts and the study of vascularized systems;

This position will report to the Supervisor, Process Development, and will support the research work that takes place in the Semi-works Pilot facilities and the High-Pressure Laboratory. The hours of operation for this position will be Monday through Friday either hour shift. Based on the R&D demand the hours of operation could be increased to twelve hours and the potential to work a second shift. The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following: * Working with chemical process equipment in the Semi-Works Process Laboratory: o Batch and continuous reactors ranging in size from 125ml to 200 gallons. o Distillation equipment from lab-scale to 40-foot tall o Feed, mixing, heating, sampling and environmental protection systems o Advanced process control and data acquisition systems
In the High Pressure Lab working with the following process equipment o Shaker tubes ranging in size from 75cc to 400cc with operating pressure of 2000 psig. o Autoclave reactors that range in size from 1 liter to 5 gallon but at lower pressure than shaker tubes o Syringe pumps (isco’s) are used frequently when making chemical additions to the shaker tube or autoclave o Specialized tools for loading shaker tubes

Summary/Scope The Chemical and Structural Biology group at Celgene is seeking a highly motivated Associate Scientist to work on proteomic systems biology using quantitative mass spectrometry. We use state of the art technology to measure protein dynamics in response to drugs and disease. Specifically, by using proteomics mass spectrometry we aim to elucidate drug binding and mechanisms of action, disease molecular pathology and how the former can affect the latter. Training will be provided, presenting a great opportunity to learn mass spectrometry, analytical biochemistry and proteomics in drug design
Apply a suite of biochemical processes to enrich, digest, separate, and quantitate protein samples
Dose compounds and extract protein from in vitro cellular models of disease
Operate and maintain high performance liquid chromatography systems coupled with high end mass spectrometers
Interpret and analyze data using a range of software tools and computational approaches
Participate and contribute to scientific discussions, meetings and presentations
Work on multiple projects, timelines and priorities in parallel
Technical Credentials, Skills & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, chemical biology, biology and/or biochemistry with at least 2 years work experience
Previous lab experience a strong plus – especially that related to tissue culture, biochemistry, analytical chemistry, separations chromatography and molecular biology
Good record keeping for protocols and lab notebook
Background in cell biology, protein chemistry, dynamics, molecular and/or analytical tools
Self-motivated to learn and contribute
Demonstrated examples of both independent productivity and team-based interpersonal skills
Enthusiasm for science, laboratory work and drug discovery
Experience in a corporate environment is a plus
