Longline Chief Engineer
Coastal Villages Longline, a subsidiary of Coastal Villages Region Fund, is currently seeking applications for a Chief Engineer to work aboard one of our Freezer Longliners. The primary job responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, working on-board our fishing vessel operating off the western coasts of Washington and Alaska. The Chief Engineer is responsible for the safe and efficient maintenance and operation of the entire vessel's engineering systems. USCG License with STCW endorsements and other merchant mariner documentation is preferred, not required. Applicants will also need to provide proof of certification to purchase and handle refrigerants, must be knowledgeable in oil spill response, and must have current 24 Hour HAZWOPER training. This position requires five years experience a Chief Engineer or First Assistant Engineer of a commercial fishing vessel.
Specific Duties Include:
The Chief Engineer is responsible for the operating, maintaining and repairing of all vessel engineering systems and processes:
Diesel propulsion and electric generating systems, deck hydraulic and pneumatic systems, Refrigeration plant, and fuel and lubrication systems.
Water making/desalinization system, vacuum sanitation system, heating and ventilation systems, and factory hydraulic system.
Product freezer system, cargo handling equipment
Knowledge of radar and navigational systems, Satcom and telecommunications equipment, electrical and electronic systems.
Engages in daily operation of vessel.
Ensures compliance with all USCG manning, watch standing, and operating regulations.
Engages in monitoring and management of preventive maintenance programs on all onboard engineering systems.

Provides input for the establishment and management of ship's engineering department budget.

Selected applicants will be required to successfully pass a post-offer background, drug test and reference check. Applicants will also be required to sign an affidavit stating they are a non-smoker. Applicants must be willing and able to be away from home for extended periods of time, and must be willing to live and work in a cramped environment, and work as a team member at all times. In addition, good communication skills, self motivation, and a positive attitude are important to ensure a high quality product and the safety of all crew members.
Crew member must be capable of working consecutive, long and variable work shifts for extended periods of time. Shifts typically range from 12 to 16 hours per day with periodic breaks depending on work demands, production requirements, availability of fish, and travel schedules.
The work is strenuous and sometimes hazardous due to exposure to operating machinery, mechanical parts, fumes, chemicals, pressurized fluids, vibration and with the vessel operating under all types of weather conditions including extreme cold. This means standing, walking and maintaining balance in rough seas or other types of weather.
Both hands must be capable of grabbing, holding or gripping rope, rails, equipment and vessel structures for frequent periods of time. Forceful grasping along with repetitive finger and hand use is occasional.
Applicant must also be able to occasionally sit, and frequently stand, bend, crouch, squat and kneel. Applicants must be able to climb up and down, safely ascend and descend ladders, work in small and confined spaces, and pass all safety test requirements.

High school graduate or equivalent is required; related trade school training is a plus. Five year's experience in Office Building Maintenance with strong skills in electrical, heating and air conditioning is required.

Overall responsibility for management and supervision of the manufacturing, industrial, and quality engineering teams. Focused on improved quality, safety, on time delivery, and cost. Plans, directs, and coordinates improvements in manufacturing methods, product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Participate in the budgeting process to include recommending capital improvements and preparing justification data as required.
2.Improve product quality to meet minimum standards and exceed customers' expectations.
3.Increase productivity levels to world class standards.
4.Improve ME/IE/QE efficiency by establishing clear priorities.
5.Create a culture of quality is everyone's responsibility.
6.Create a culture of innovation and structured data driven problem solving.
7.Improve throughput and quality through the factory by managing the review of space requirements, design layouts, and the reduction of DPU by managing quality at the source.
8.Lead problem solving initiatives focused on improving quality, safety, on time delivery, and cost.
9.Create and maintain project documentation for project planning, requirements analysis, risk management, issues management, status reporting, project communication, and quality assurance.
10. Provide consistent communication of objectives, results, and performance parameters to the team and the management.
11. Perform job duties in an ethical, professional manner which is consistent with the Oshkosh Way. Conduct duties consistent with the Company's mission statement, quality objectives, and defined policies and procedures.
12. Provide leadership in all new product development projects to ensure flawless launch.
13. Provide technical assistance for prototype, pilot, and production support
14. Provide leadership to the Business Unit (BU) engineering group as needed to support BU and Corporate business objectives. This includes the development of a strategic vision for the department as well as providing effective support for all aspects of the organization through the creation of cost effective, innovative products and processes.
15. Provide management/leadership to technical staff including resource planning, scheduling, and administration to ensure program success.
16. Perform all other duties as assigned by the employer.
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Quality, or related field
10-plus years related experience
Master's degree in related field
Six Sigma Certification
Possess a strong mechanical knowledge of vehicles and related systems
Strong verbal presentation and written communication skills
Experience in managing manufacturing or quality engineering
Experience in continuous improvement or operational excellence
