Chip And Saw Operator/Forklift
Communicate with the De Barker and Chop Saw operators regarding any deficiencies in log quality or adjustments needed to maintain steady flow process throughout the saw mill.
-Keep the Chip and Saw processing logs as safely and efficiently as possible.
Monitor log quality, inform the De Barker of any noticeable decline in straightness, length or bark content.
Try to maintain an eight foot (8') gap at all times.
Reject any log which may cause immediate or down line problems for whatever reason.
Record downtime accurately so problems can be identified and repaired as soon as possible.
Contact maintenance and/or your supervisor immediately if any problem develops which may present a safety hazard or affect the quality of the product, shut down the machine as quickly as possible.
Be able to identify or specify, if possible, whether the problem is electrical or mechanical to assist maintenance in solving the problem as fast as possible.
Watch the Edger Deck on the monitor, inform the Edger Operator of any hang ups under the Rollcase.
Instruct the Edger or Reman Operators of any problems a the VDA outfeed.
Stop production if necessary to allow operators to safely fix any problem.
Wait for their signal to restart the Chip and Saw.
Work with operators down the line to keep up with what is going on in their areas.
This will maximize production.
- If Edger Deck backs up with large material it may be necessary to request smaller diameter wood to keep production flowin smoothly.
Down Time and Clean Up
-Inspect the machine for any defects.
Broken, missing or loose bolts, pins or other fasteners.
Loose drive chains and belts, work or damaged conveyors (belt and chain types), any hydraulic, water or air leaks.
Loose or damaged couplings or inserts on any direct drive.
Any guards missing, defective, damaged or inadequate.
Any other observation that is suspicious in any fashion.
Report any problems to your supervisory and/or maintenance immediately.
Clean all photo eyes, sensors and camera lenses.
Remove any broken pieces of wood, slabs or tips that can interfere with log or cant throughput or potentially block a photo eye that cause additional downtime.
Remove any logs that have fallen between the chain runners on the log deck and place them properly back to the log deck.
Utilizing the overhead (Bridge) crane to move any units of boards (from Bin, Stacker Reject Deck, etc.) to the Chip and Saw or Edger outfeed deck or the Trimmer landing table as space permits.
Do not overload any deck.
Paint hand rails with safety yellow paint.
Clean the operators cab and windows.
Pick up any debris off the floor and catwalk in your area.
General and Physical Conditions: The majority of the Chip and Saw operation is performed from inside the operators cab while seated.
The operators cab is air conditioned for comfort.
Some vibration will be noticed in the operators cab from logs falling into either Step Feeder and from the operation of the Chip and Saw itself.
Noise levels are minimal when working inside the operators cab with the door closed, hearing protections (and all other required PPE) is required when outside the operators cab.
Most of the required maintenance and clean up does requires some overtime commitment either prior to or just after the scheduled production shift.
Some of the activity involves heavy lifting so be sure to always follow the rules of safe lifting, all safety procedures and never hesitate to ask for help.
OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: -Must possess good hand eye coordination for operating dual hand controls.
Must be able to sit for extended periods of time in the operators cab.
Although this piece of equipment is highly automated, the operator must be able to monitor several things at a time and be able to make manual adjustments on the fly to ensure a smooth flow of processed lumber.
Duties will require some manual material handling of logs.
Ability to lift, carry or move up to 50 pounds or more is required.
Must be able to understand and respond to verbal communication and instructions.
Must be able to work well with other employees.
Forklift experience is desired.

This position is responsible for cleaning incoming/outgoing cages and trailers after they have been emptied of poultry and then moving via jockey truck with trailers.
This position is for 2nd shift (starts approx 1:30 PM)
Wash metal live haul cages and trailers in conjunction with other employees in a timely and efficient manner.
Remove all visible feathers and fecal material from cages and trailers by use of a water hose.
May require some scrubbing of metal objects. Requires standing 8 hours a day.
Position is primarily outdoors so selected employee must be able to be exposed to all types of weather. Must wear plant required and approved PPE.
Drive truck to move trailers in and out of cage washing area. Inspect truck for good working order.
Verifies trailer and cages are acceptable before removing from wash bay.
Needs to be able to climb several steps into and out of the yard truck.
