Responsible for operating gasoline powered equipment and various hand tools used in the daily operation of maintaining clear channels, drainage elements and rights of ways in accordance with the District's mission to maintain the Infrastructure.
Cut and chop weeds and other types of vegetation using gasoline-powered equipment such as weed eaters, non-powered hand tools such as machetes, axes or tree trimmer.
Remove and stack cut vegetation in, along and around channels, drainage elements and rights-of ways using hand rakes or pitchforks.
Load or assist in loading cut vegetation and refuse into trash trucks for removal to dump site with or without power or hand tools.
Clear rights of way of trees, rocks and any other large obstacles.
May enter the channel in water up to three feet in depth or from the bank to dislodge and remove drifts and debris (trees, limbs, brush, vines, trash and refuse) that impede water flow around and under bridges or other areas.
Spray herbicides on selected weeds and grasses using filled backpacks that weigh between 25 and 30 pounds.

Monitoring the safety of roadways with regard to vehicle crashes, disa bled/abandoned vehicles, debris, and lane-closing events, traffic signal malfun ctions, damage to equipment and large materials on state roadways, and general incident/congestion scenarios.
Provides roadside assistance to stranded mot orists (including changing tires, giving battery jumps, providing fuel, removin g debris from the travel lanes, etc.)
Works closely with other first respon ders at highway incidents.
Provides incident response, on-scene traffic con trol and limited first aid
Provides Traffic Incident Management services
Accepts personal responsibility of all work output in the MAP vehicle
Adh eres to MAP SOP guidelines.
Communicates with Traffic Management Center sta ff with regard to disabled vehicles, abandoned vehicles, debris, and lane-closi ng events
Coordinates with TMC operations staff to obtain a full understand ing of the status of all incident activity
Disseminates information clearly and effectively to TMC operations staff using a radio unit or two-way communic ation device
Notifies TMC personnel of traffic signal malfunctions, damage to equipment and large debris on state roadways, and general incident/congestio n scenarios
Is willing to provide emergency roadside service to motorist an d observe safety procedures to avoid injury and accidents at all times.

High school diploma (equivalent ) with at least 1+ years of experie nce in a similar field
Have a good driving record, Commercial Driver's Lice nse (CDL) is desired but not required
Must be able to perform the physical demands of the job
Strong command on the English language and ability to co mmunicate both in writing and verbally; Bilingualism in Spanish is an asset
Must have a general working knowledge of vehicle maintenance
Basic comp uter skills
Ability to work various shifts including morning, evening, over night, weekends and holidays in a variety of weather conditions
Ability to work diligently in a noisy environment
Use of personal protective equipment
The Position requires CPR/First Aid certification (training provided)
Passes a criminal history check and drug test.
