The primary function of the Geotechnical Driller Helper/ Engineering Technician is to safely assist Crew Chief Drillers and Engineering Staff with equipment operation and maintenance, sample collection, performing testing projects on various construction materials in the laboratory and on field construction projects, and documenting results under the direction of our Engineering Staff in a timely and professional manner.
Safely assist in the operation and maintenance of our Central Mine Equipment (CME) drill rigs and related equipment in compliance with company and Department of Transportation (MNDOT) requirements
Accurately locate soil test boring locations using topographical maps and/or dimensioned site sketches. Determine ground surface elevations at the locations of soil borings using eye level measurement equipment from know site benchmark elevations
Clear site utilities at soil boring locations using Gopher-State-One-Call
Determine if problems exist concerning locations, evaluations, soil conditions and/or existing site obstructions and/or utilities. Immediately notify appropriate personnel to determine how to proceed with the project, minimizing lost time
Perform soil, bituminous and concrete testing each day as specified and on schedule. These duties will be required in the lab & field
Assist in performing the boring operation according to company QA procedures and job specifications; take/collect samples within bored holes, record penetrations (N-values), classify the soil according to USCS, produce thorough and accurate records of operations/soil boring logs and partner with Project Managers in reporting accurate results
Perform all essential duties and responsibilities associated with AASHTO Material Reference Library (AMRL) requirements and deliver completed documentation to Project Managers
Skills / Qualifications
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions, data and details furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
Must have valid Driver's License, or ability to obtain prior to beginning employment

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
