Alongside the Senior Development Manager, you will be expected to foster this knowledge throughout the product development team and your direct reports. In this role you will also be tasked with the setting direction, managing, creating and maintaining block library, grade rules and point of measure library, train factories in appropriate application of standards, adapt 3D technology and working with technical services on yield verifications. Models and acts in accordance with REI’s guiding values and mission.
Identifies and communicates key responsibilities and practices to ensure the organization promotes a successful attitude, confidence in leadership, and teamwork to achieve business results.
Set direction for and develop physical fit foundation for the division including the evaluation of body size, shape and the relationship of clothing on the target body and development of dress forms.
Determine the need and timing of competitive fit deep-dive research on product categories within their division to maintain fit, sizing and construction relevant to the marketplace.
Manage divisional sizing and grade rule consistency across product categories in the PLM database.
Support Product Developers in all aspects of fittings, technical issues and product evaluations during product creation process by providing expertise for appropriate block reference, guidance for necessary fit/pattern adjustments during fit approval process and executing pattern corrections if determined critical for successful execution of styles from development to production.
Proven track record of critiquing, adjusting and evaluating design concepts and prototypes from a fit, pattern and functional perspective.
Protect brand integrity and consistency through department use and upgrades of block and fit camps based on changing business needs.
Expected to update and maintain a comprehensive block library for all product categories.
Ability to maintain a consistently relevant pool of external/internal models, fit and wear testers, proactively organize size set reviews.
Maintains and updates grade rule and point of measure library and ensures factories apply grades in accordance to REI standards consistently across all categories.
Supports Product Developer team Travel to Asia and/or Central America to work with manufacturers and suppliers on current and future development projects, supporting design and product developers during prototype reviews.
Displays advanced knowledge in construction and technical expertise, extends outside of their area to support and problem solve and acts as a leader with a strong influence towards partners.
Interacts with technical services during pre-production phase, reviewing graded patterns and/or help resolve grading issues.
Translate field input on customer fit and quality experience to strategically improve the consumers' future experience with product and service to increase customer satisfaction and loyalty.
Supports technical services and costing team in yield verification where needed for IMU improvement
Champions 3D technology adaptation into product development process for select product and lays foundation for future 3D capability growth within Private Brands.
Must show a strong ability to communicate and implement process improvement plans at both the factory level & internal creation team level.
Have an understanding and ability to course correct projects that fall off calendar. Create and communicate a plan for these situations that outlines in details the needs of the specific project. This includes mentoring peers and direct reports
Supports Senior Pattern Engineer and depending on business needs seasonal contractors and/or interns if applicable
Develops, implements and manages multi-seasonal product development strategy for respective product categories to fully express a world class product and brand story
Details, monitors and ensures compliance to seasonal timeline milestones, recommends changes for milestones as needed.
Defines and Implements practices consistent with industry best practice or REI SOP. Identifies, develops and executes on opportunities for process improvement at team level
Contributes to on-going requirements identification and development of systems to support the product function.
Ensures department level deliverables align with Product Integrity strategy, collaborates with cross functional Product Integrity support team

Pattern Maker/Product Development Coordinator
Plantation Patterns, a division of NBGHome, is a manufacturer and distributor of high quality outdoor cushions and umbrellas in the United States. We are currently seeking a Pattern Maker/Product Development Coordinator to be based in our Birmingham, ALfacility.
This role develops new product pattern work (cut and sewn pillows and cushions) for Plantation Patterns product development workshop. It also supports the Product Development Manager in creating detailed specifications of all products including drawings and maintaining the FileMaker Development Database. Additional duties include coordinating and facilitating the sample order process.
Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesinclude the following with other duties as assigned:
- Pattern Making-Using AutoCAD Software
- Generates Specifications sheets including Product Drawings using Auto Cad Software
- Support Product Development Manager will all activities related to the product development process
- Sample Order Management
- Fabric Management
- Shipping Samples.
Significant experience using AutoCAD required. Photoshop and Illustrator a Plus.
Significant experience using Microsoft Office is required. Intermediate level in Excel and PowerPoint required.
Education and/or Experience -
- Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university with an emphasis in Industrial Design or Industrial Engineering; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 2 Years of Pattern Making and AutoCAD experience
