Engineering Technician II- Painter/Surface Preparation
Epsilon Systems Partners is seeking a full time Engineering Technician II- Painter/Surface Preparation in San Diego, CA.
Prepare marine equipment surfaces for painting. Set up, operate or tend machines to powder coat or paint a variety of surfaces. Whereas, surface preparation and a variety of paint methods are required, this job specializes in powder coating operations. Works independently or as a member of a work team. Independently determines the work sequences, tools, and materials required. Requires little supervision or checks during the progress of his/her work assignments.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Utilizes corrosion control area in accordance with controlled/formal work packages, and applicable technical documentation sign off steps.
Coats structural surfaces with paint, lacquer, epoxy, resin or other material, using brushes, rollers, spray guns and other devices.
Prepares surfaces for painting/powder coating
Performs masking and hanging in preparation for powder coating.
Loads the pre-heat ovens.
Unloads the pre-heat oven in preparation of powder coating.
Powder coats the products according to the request color.
Loads the Curing oven after the powder coating.
Conducts millimeter thickness test on the coating.
Checks completed work with supervisor, government lead or quality control personnel to insure it meets required standards and specifications.
Uses and maintains the following equipment and instruments : Burn-off Ovens, Curing Ovens, Blast Booths, Powder Coating Booths, Compressors, Hopper's and Media, Gantry Crane, Fork Lift, Hydraulic Lift tables, Table Saw, Wash down booth, Dip Tank, Fluidize Bed Tank, Decontamination Trailer, Coating Thickness Gauge, Infrared Thermometer, Dew Point Humidity Gauge, Single Rail Mobility Device (Monorail System).
Uses and maintains the following instruments: Abrasive blast nozzle, Powder coating gun, Powder coat panel, Micrometer, Press-o-film, Tape, Plugs, Rubber Mallet, Razor blade or knife, Sand paper, Pneumatic grinder and sander, Floor dolly, Tag machine, Wire cutters, Pyrometer, DS-108, Thickness gauge, Powder coat holiday detector, Hooks and wire, Automatic embossing machine system Matica C 400, Shop vacuum cleaner, Power floor sweeper.
Operates machines or equipment used in coating or painting processes.
Observes machine gauges and equipment operation to detect defects or deviations from standards, and make adjustments as necessary.
Determines paint flow, viscosity, and coating quality by performing visual inspections, or by using viscometers.
Records operational data on specified forms.
Follows or refers to work packages, specifications, drawings and manufacturers technical guidance.
High school diploma or equivalent
Minimum 2 years' in the marine paint industry
Ability to obtain and maintain base access
Working knowledge of mixing paints and primers and their application process
Ability to perform powder coating operations independently
Formal training and qualifications meeting industry accepted powder coating standards
Current Navy Basic Paint Inspector Qualifications, and/or
NACE Level 1 CIP Qualifications
Frequent standing, sitting, walking, handling, feeling with hands, reaching with arms, stooping, kneeling, and crouching
Regular communication (hearing/speaking)
Ability to lift heavy objects (over 50 lbs).
Ability to work in a shipboard environment
Ability to climb ladders and stairs
Ability to work in varying work conditions including extreme climates
Ability to be medically certified to wear a respirator if required
