The Undersea Systems Office (USO) of the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State is seeking an Electrical Engineer, with a specialty in PCB Design. This individual will create Printed Circuit Board (PCB) layout designs using Altium Designer.
Designs will range from high speed digital to analog to power. Responsibilities include: evaluating relevant design requirements for product realization; working with electrical circuit designers; performing analysis as required to confirm design compliance; supporting other analysis functions ie: structural and thermal as required to establish PCB design compliance; write PCB test plans and procedures. This job will be filled as a level 2, or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience.
Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher in an Engineering or Science discipline or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred.
IPC Designer certification highly desired. Preferred experience includes: proficiency with the Team Center and NX; prior experience with electronics bench testing, assembly, test equipment, firmware/software Familiarity with version control beneficial. Experience with the following is required: capable of generating complete drawings set to document PCB; fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, Bills of Materials (BOM's). Communication skills, including ability to collaborate with team members within and outside department required.

Printed Circuit Board Assembler/Solderer
Electronic Assembler will perform upper level hand assembly and have experience doing through-hole, surface mount and jumper wire soldering as well as IPC-610 Inspection/touch-up. Experience painting small parts and/or screen printing type processes helpful.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work will include but not limited to: assembly, soldering, inspection, packaging, process improvements and training as well as other related activities.
Ability to perform SMT and/or PTH soldering of Printed Circuit Boards. Experienced in SMT and PTH rework and touch-up of PCB. Need skills in component bond, component assembly and hardware assembly.

Ability to perform duties of the conformal coat processes.
Ability to perform duties in module cleaning, potting and testing.
Ability to learn the use of bench top equipment, test equipment, hands tools and computers.

Printed Circuit Board (Pcb) Designer
The PCB Designer will be responsible for producing PCB fabrication and assembly designs and design documentation for automotive, HVOR, and industrial sensors.
- The PCB Designer (Designer) will be responsible for PCB fabrication and PCB assembly design and related documentation, including ECAD project file data management, ECO processing, BOM support, and documentation control activity in support of sustaining engineering, derivative design, and new product design of various sensor products.
The Designer will primarily interface with internal Design Engineering customers and design peers, as well as drafters, Bill-of-Material specialists, and Document Control. The Designer will be expected to transform Design Engineering inputs into detailed design models and drawings while applying standards and best practices of industry (ex. IPC, ASME Y14 series), business unit, supplier, and department. Expertise will be demonstrated in core department competencies: design, CAD, drafting, document control (ECO, PDM, PLM), and product configuration management (BOM).

Night Shift B Rotation
Operate CVD coating furnaces to coat carbide and Cermet inserts.
Key Job Responsibilities
Load and unload fixtures with product into furnaces. Ensure that the product is set up correctly and sufficiently clean.
Enter product weights and desired coating cycle information and other related data into computer as required. Start and monitor the coating process. Properly clean fixturing and base plates between heats.
Ensure adequate gas supply. Replace gas tanks as needed. Ensure targets and melts are adequate to run the process being loaded.
Perform test on standards to ensure coating thickness and adhesion are within specifications. Perform batch cleanings at proper intervals. Will be responsible for setting up and separating product. Keep area and equipment clean.
Key Job Accountabilities
Job performed without constant supervision. Incumbents are responsible for the furnace performance.
Job duties are performed with latitude. Supervisors must be notified of any deviation from operating procedures.
Knowledge and Skills
Understand oral and written communications and instructions. Must be able to do basic math.

Fix to six hours per eight hour period of intermittent walking and standing with break opportunities. Normal strength required assembling and disassembling furnace sections. Lifting objects weighing an average of twenty pounds (some reaching as much as, but not more than 60 lbs.)
Solve furnace related problems by using learned knowledge and reasoning skills and by consulting supervisors and co-workers.
