About the open position
Michigan Spring and Stamping is looking for employees with skilled technical backgrounds to add to our team. Positions start at a minimum of $12.00/hr but is paid based on experience.
Over the next year, the qualified candidate will be trained in:
- Understanding the SPC process
- Checking and documenting critical dimensions of parts using measuring tools such as gages, micrometers and calipers
- Setting up, troubleshooting and making adjustments to metal forming machines to achieve specified product dimensions
- Analyzing work orders, work piece, blueprints, specifications to determine process, materials, tooling, and sequence of operations
- Selecting and installing appropriate tools and equipment (cams, forming tools, cut off tools, dies, etc.) to produce a part as specified on blue print.
- Keep parts and tools in their proper place, occasionally fix or replace broken tooling and have replacement parts available.
- Grind arbors and any other necessary parts.
- Maintain quality at standard rates of set-up and running speed.
- Problem solve, correct and/or stop production when defective parts are detected.
- Interpret shop orders, use computer terminals, and material requisitions properly.
- Weigh, label, and package parts
- Abide by safe work practices at all times

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES includethe following:
Carries out responsibilities in accordance with theorganization's policies and applicable laws.

Level 1 Requirements:
Lubrication of equipment
Basic repair of auxiliary components
Understand and use tape measure, micrometer, caliper and othermeasuring devices in both English and Metric units
Operate hand and power tools
Obtain a valid forklift license
Computer knowledge and Maximo functions as required
Level 2 Requirements:
Assist in repairing machinery
Minor forklift repair
Familiarity of plant production equipment
Familiarity of plant systems
Torches - setup and operation
Arc welder - setup and operation
Butt welder troubleshooting and repair
Basic multimeter functions (fuses, conductivity, voltagepresence)
Basic understanding, operation and repair of rollingcassettes
Level 3 Requirements:
Perform preventative maintenance on all machines andequipment
Basic mechanical repair
Basic welding capability
Perform a complete rebuild of rolling cassettes
Perform alignment requirements of rolling cassettes
Inspect/change brushes on DC motors
Basic troubleshooting skills (hydraulics, pneumatics,electrical, mechanical)
Level 4 Requirements:
Electrical systems - control circuits on all machines(excluding PLCs)
Thorough knowledge and operating capability of all plantproduction and systems equipment
Knowledge and safe operating capability of shop equipment suchas milling machines, lathes, grinders, sander, drill press,hydraulic press, etc.
Install single phase and 3-phase electrical motors and capableof wiring correctly
Understand and troubleshoot branch feeder circuits anddisconnects
Remove and install blocks and gearboxes of rolling/drawingmachines and use proper rigging techniques
Repair and setup of cross wire insertion gearbox
Advanced use of multimeter, meger and other testingequipment
General knowledge of plumbing, valve types, fitting types andtypes of pipe such as PVC, steel, copper, etc.
Ability to make decisions on problems and repairs and reactaccordingly
Willingness and ability to train other employees in Levels1-3
Willingness to attend training seminars and vocational classesas related to job functions
Level 5 Requirements:
Advanced electrical circuits - relays, contactors, motors,starters, DC drives, AC drives and advanced troubleshooting ofServo motor systems
Read and understand electrical schematics
24V - 480V circuits
Air compressors, chiller, dust collector, etc.
PLCs (SAIA and Siemens)
Erotherm SSD links
Setup, calibrate and install AC-DC drives
Install welder transformers in all welders
Advanced hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical
Troubleshoot relief valves, flow valves, cartridge valves,directional control valves, pumps, cylinders, etc.
Proficient in blueprint reading
Remove and install all internal parts in a welder
Willingness and ability to train others in all previouslevels
Ability to stick weld in all positions.

The Verona plant became part of Ball's metal food & household products packaging division, Americas, in 2010 when Ball acquired Neuman Aluminum. The plant originally opened in 1986 and manufacturers approximately 24,500 metric tons of aluminum discs (slugs) for impact extrusion annually.
The plant is located in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley, surrounded by the Blue Ridge and Allegheny Mountains. Within a short drive of the State and Nation's Capital there is plenty to do and see whether it be culture related activities, great dinning or enjoying the mountains, streams and lakes.
Primary Purpose of Position:
Employee is responsible for banding, racking, and moving coils and transporting them to storage. Employee must be able to operate the controls at the coiler table. Employee is responsible for relieving at the wheel; including monitoring quality, controlling the flow of molten metal from the furnace to the wheel where it cools and is processed.
Essential Functions and
Complies with established job safety practices, policies and procedures as specified in plant and corporate directives for the safe performance of the work assignment.
Supports and follows the guidelines of the food safety system.
Feed and band coils; take coils off coiler and band.
Monitor degasser for proper working condition, clean every 15 minutes.
Assure Chlorine and Argon tanks are filled to the proper level. Replace tanks when empty.
Check/monitor slab/strip for cracks, blisters, oxides, or other visible damage/defects.
Make sure that all dross in aluminum is taken out by skimming.
Check speed and rotation of degasser shaft; allow metal to run through degasser.
Open furnace and allow molten aluminum to exit through tap hole.
Control rate of metal to fill small tilt furnaces; skim/scrape tilt furnaces.
Monitor metal as it enters the wheel and cools; clean and examine belt and wheel.
Complete wheel/belt sheet including belt condition, spray/sand belt/wheel, and temperature.
Any other tasks as assigned by management including; assisting management in the training of new employees.
Regular, consistent and on-time attendance is required.

Required to work assigned schedule or 12-hour shifts, rotating days and nights, Monday through Sunday, working hours may vary as specified by management. Incumbent must be able to work overtime on a regular basis and/or be on call as directed by management.

Setup Specialist/Cnc Machine Operator (2307-271)
Associated Spring has an exciting and rewarding opportunity available for a Setup Specialist/CNC Machine Operator in Milwaukee, WI. The Setup Specialist/CNC Machine Operator is responsible for operating mechanical and CNC coilers and wire forming machines to produce compression springs. In this position you will be expected to setup, adjust, operate and maintenance equipment and maintain tooling requirements. Positions to be filled on 1st and/or 2nd shifts. Set-up, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot various spring forming equipment, including mechanical and hydraulic presses, hydraulic formers, spring winders, etc.
Following control plans and use statistical techniques to insure processes are centered
Develop, maintain, and improve set-ups, procedures and process documentation
Detect and correct or report equipment, machine, material, production or other operating difficulties to Supervisor
Determine tooling requirements and develop, with some assistance if necessary, tooling, fixtures, holding devices and other machine or equipment accessories
Assist in developing product, process and tooling, working with Engineers and Toolmaker when applicable
Diagnose operating problems and take corrective action, with some assistance if necessary
Perform routine machine maintenance and preventative maintenance
Develop or modify NC/CNC programs to optimize production operations
Set up and operate machine tools including surface grinders, mills, and lathes
Assist machine operators/temporary employees in the interpretation of operating methods
Maintain work area in a clean and orderly fashion and conform to all quality and safety procedures

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION:
This position is responsible for all operating functions as listed below. Operation of the machines must be understood in total with the focus of utilizing the equipment to meet all the quality and productivity goals as outlined in our quality system. All work instructions must be followed as outline.
RELATIONSHIPS AND AUTHORITIES:
You must work together as a member of your crew, communicating with each other in the normal course of the day's work. This position has authority over no other personnel.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Listed below are the primary activities which must be learned, understood and followed according to work instructions. The normal time frame for completion of training is approximately 1500 hours. The Group Leader and Supervisor will monitor each person's progression and provide any necessary instruction or direction as deemed necessary during the training period.
1.Check with the Inspector for pay-off instructions and any other special instructions as listed in the AS-400 system.
2.Thread the strip into the Coiler Reel. Follow all work instructions
3.Insert cardboard cores, cardboard, foam and interleaving paper as per work instruction for Operations and customer requirements.
SUPPLEMENTAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1.Start and remove Interleaving Paper as per work instructions.
2.Remove any scrap or secondary pup coils as directed by Inspection
3.Change ID Plates as specified.
4.Cut cores and paper as needed for coil widths and gauges.
5.Follow all prescribed safety rules.
6.Start, remove and band all scrap balls as per work instructions.
7.Perform all Housekeeping/Maintenance functions as assigned.
8.Band all finished coils per work instructions.
9.Perform all other jobs as assigned.
10. Participation in continuous improvement programs.
