This position's primary responsibility is to ensure that all raw materials such as colorants, additives, and resins meet the requirements of Silgan Dispensing Systems Slatersville LLC internal and external customers.
Responsible for formulating/color matching customer targets for Sales department. Approves and/or adjusts all color concentrates prior to submission to molding.
This includes ensuring additives are in the correct prpportions and resins are in compliance with Silgan Dispensing Systems Slatersville LLC standards. Manufactures production and customer color chips utilizing plastic injection molding methods.
Provides technical support to Sales and Engineering departments on information relating to materials, additives, and colorants.
Works with Product Stewardship to ensure all ingredients are in compliance with government regulations for packaging, including FDA compliance letters, colorant, and resin specification sheets.
Inspects, tests, and verifies incoming raw materials.
Schedules deliveries of raw materials. Responsible for quality control of colorants.
Maintains a record of sample/color lab activity such as extrusion, henscheling, dye weighing, colorant formula, grinding, unit submissions, and color checks.
2-5yrs. experience in color matching thermoplastics and injection molding
Experience using spectrophotometer
Strong colorant knowledge - polyethylene & polypropylene.
Experience utilizing all Microsoft Office Suite software.
Bachelor degree preferred.

Provides color matching of automotive coatings by using standard laboratory procedures to ensure that materials meet specifications with minimal supervision so that color quality is maintained in the market.

Provides technical assistance and support to Production, Sales, and Marketing, as required in support of product scale-up, quality control, application testing, and other cross functional activities.
Maintains detailed technical records, as required, in the form of a Laboratory Notebook or Computer Database. Provides progress reports, monthly reports, technical plans, project summaries and other internal and external correspondence in a timely manner to ensure appropriate communication of project status and needs.
Maintain and develop professional contacts including company personnel, vendors, and customers.
Promotes safety and environmental regulations by ensuring that standards, policies, and procedures are adhered to in compliance with corporate, federal, state, and local requirements.

Requirements for Job (education or experience required to be able to perform this job):
Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Coatings or in a related scientific field is required
Two (2) years experience is required.
Candidates must have basic formulating knowledge in coatings with hands-on color matching / approval experience.
Must be able to interface well with customers and be proficient in MS Office Applications and X-rite, BYK Mac.
Excellent verbal and written communication is required.
Compound Color Mixer Matcher
Accurately and efficiently create color matches from sample and substrate only. Assist Consumables Production Manager with procedures, capacity issues, and other tasks. Mix and match custom inks per customer requirements while providing superior reliability and quality. Provide accurate ink data entry and courteous customer service on ink related questions. Cross train in all duties, assisting in controlling costs, and meeting inventory goals.
Color match new formulas. Create or modify color match formulas from scratch based only on a color sample and substrate.
Mix and adjust custom color ink per customer requirements or existing formulas.
Solve ink color shade related issues when customers are in-house for test printing. Make modifications as necessary to ensure successful trials.
Maintain optimum ink stock for custom colors and color matching.
Properly package custom inks and related products, including labeling and storage.
Assist internal (or external if requested by sales force) customers with ink color shade related issues or questions.
Participate in vendor seminars or other schooling if applicable to keep current with related new industry techniques or products.
Assist in determining department capacity as requested
Review and schedule work orders, enter transfers, and accurately close work orders in computer.
Train new associates or cross-train other associates in procedures, accurate ink mixing, color matching and cell duties.
Perform regular housekeeping including maintaining mixing equipment, organizing and cleaning ink room, and work space.
Perform proper disposal of hazardous materials.
Cross train for other duties as requested and proper operating procedures.

This position is primarily responsible for color changes and operation of injection molding machines to mold products form thermoplastic materials. Additionally, this position is responsible for inspecting and trimming excess material from parts and performing secondary operations. Adherence to safety, housekeeping and quality standards as related to production and company objectives is required. The Color Specialist coordinates the completion of batches in a timely fashion to meet scheduling needs of the production floor, as established by the Job Flow team.
