ABOUT THE POSITION
This posting will be used to fill positions in the Development Review Division and Survey Division Map Team. The position performs plan review on off-site improvement plans and subdivision plans; performs complex technical and/or specialized work which requires the exercise of independent judgment, the application of technical skills and knowledge of detailed or specialized activities; provides information in person or over the phone to the public or to County staff that requires the use of judgment and the interpretation of policies, procedures and regulations; explains and enforces provisions of County codes, applicable laws and regulations, and other policies and standards to potential applicants and the public.
Plan Checker I: $50,024.00 - $77,521.60
Plan Checker II: $53,976.00 - $83,699.20
This examination will establish an Open Competitive and Promotional list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months at either level or may be extended as needed by the Office of Human Resources. The Plan Checker I is a training underfill position, upon successful completion of the probationary period (520 hours worked to 2,080 hours worked) and the training program, which is up to two (2) years, the successful candidate will be non-competitively promoted to Plan Checker II.
Education and Experience:
Plan Checker I - Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Architecture or a field related to the work. Full-time experience as a plan checker, plan designer or inspector may be substituted for the education on a year-for-year basis.
Plan Checker II - In addition to the above: Minimum of one (1) year of full-time professional experience in a combination of residential, commercial and industrial plan checking.
Qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the "Education" and "Work Experience" sections of the application. Do not substitute a resume for your application or write "see attached resume" on your application.
Licensing and Certification: Possess a valid Nevada Class C Driver's License at time of appointment.

Reviews and examines plans and specifications for residential, commercial, industrial, public works and amusement and transportation device plans, specifications and related documents. Confers with developers, engineers, architects, contractors, property owners and others to give information regarding codes, regulations and procedures.
Reviews calculations for completeness, code compliance and accuracy. Researches information confirm ownership, ascertain assessor's values, determine zoning area and other information; researches code provisions on difficult problems. Forwards plan packages to other departments and agencies for review; coordinates review with them and coordinates the plan checking process to ensure that all applicable standards have been met.
Recommends necessary changes to obtain compliance with building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, solar, accessibility, energy and other codes and requirements; conveys this information to the individual submitting the plans and suggests alternative ways to meet the code requirements. Advises construction management and building inspectors and others regarding problems that may occur in the field. Provides services at a public counter to answer questions and approve minor plans.
Maintains accurate records, logs and files of plans, plan review status and work performed. Monitors technical developments and legislation related to new materials and new methods of construction; recommends procedural or ordinance changes as appropriate. Prepares reports, correspondence and a variety of written materials.
Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team. Uses standard office equipment, including a computer, in the course of the work; drives a personal or County vehicle to visit work sites and attend meetings.
Mobility to work in a typical office setting, use standard office equipment, and to drive a motor vehicle in order to inspect field sites and attend meetings; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. We are looking for a Mechanical Drafting Checker to support Electric Power Systems who is a team player with a high level of initiative and the ability to work in an environment of rapidly changing priorities.
When checking, individuals are responsible for reviewing all drawings to ensure proper functionality. Checkers ensure that, prior to release, all drawings are complete (accurate, fully dimensioned and in alignment with build-up studies). Checkers must validate that all drawings support program requirements as well as support appropriate Collins, industry and manufacturing standards. Checkers ensure parts assemble properly and can be economically manufactured. They are responsible for mentoring draftsmen to ensure drawing accuracy and organization, the proper usage of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, the proper usage of standard features, manufacturing methodology and standard library information. Checkers are also responsible for the accuracy of the drawing progress report.
When analyzing a design, the Checkers create tolerance build ups to support hardware functionality and drawing creation. They perform eccentricity studies on multi-component assemblies and interface studies involving rotating hardware with seals, bearings, electro-mechanical components, gears, and splines. When analyzing the design, the Checker works directly with the engineer and designer throughout the layout process.
The selected candidate will be expected to conform to Collins norms for validating the order and methodologies used in modeling so that the documented design can be reviewed, analyzed and released in a manner consistent with established practices.

Under direction, reviews plans, specifications, and permit applications and performs inspections to ensure compliance with fire life safety codes, regulations, and ordinances for building construction, underground and aboveground tanks, fire protection and life safety systems, etc; reviews plans for compliance with local and state fire and life safety standards and regulations; consults with architects, builders, and developers on fire protections systems; conducts field inspections for compliance with local and state fire and life safety standards and regulations; recommends changes in design, construction, or installation of equipment based on analysis of present or potential fire and fire-related hazards; recommends installation of firefighting facilities and fire alarm detection and extinguishing systems; assists in enforcing building and fire codes and pursuing legal prosecution of violators; prepares correspondence and written reports; recommends changes in building and fire codes to the Building Official or Deputy Fire Marshal; assists in planning fire protection programs; assists in training of personnel assigned to fire prevention; and performs other related duties as required.

- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in fire protection engineering or a closely related field (proof required)*.
Two years of paid, full-time equivalent, professional engineering experience in fire protection and building plan review, code enforcement or a closely related field. Experience offering specific and substantial preparation for the duties of the position may be substituted for the required education on a year for year basis.
Required documents, such as transcripts or degree, must be uploaded to the application at the time of filing. Any proofs submitted must contain either the applicant's name or other identifying characteristic on the form.
Degree must indicate the field of study and transcripts must indicate field of study and degree conferred date. Candidates who possess degrees from colleges or universities from outside the United States must attach proof of educational equivalency at the time of filing.
Knowledge of California Fire Code, California Building Code, National Fire Protection Association Code, California Administrative Code, and related standards.
Willingness to work weekends, nights, holidays, and overtime as required.
A valid motor vehicle operator's license and a current DMV driving record must be presented to the hiring department at time of selection.
ICC Certification as a Fire Plans Examiner, Fire Inspector I and II and/or certification of completion in any of the following coursework: California State Fire Marshal Fire Prevention/Inspector classes (1A, 1B, 1C and 1D) are highly desirable and may be required within one year of appointment.
This examination will be conducted using the continuous, non-competitive procedure. All applicants meeting the requirements will be placed on the eligible list, with those receiving Veteran's credit first, and then in the order in which applications were filed. Eligible lists will be established periodically.
The continuous eligible list will expire in six months.
