Responsibilities may include:
Machine Setups that involve changing of molds, setting a variety of limit switches to achieve proper mold height, stroke, closing, etc.
Set injection pressures, adjust material feed and back pressure and ram speed.
Set heat controls and timers.
Set up automatic product removal system and conveyor for automatic operation and adjust ejection system for proper removal of product.
Perform wiring hookups required for limit switches. Adjust ejection system for proper removal of product. Install necessary plumbing apparatus and connect temperature control equipment, parts separation equipment and wiring hookups.
Monitor operation of automatic equipment, unload parts, cut off sprue and gates and place in container. Spot check work and make adjustments to maintain tolerances.
Make minor repairs to fixtures and equipment and lubricate machines as required.
Must have prior experience operating and setting-up molding machines.
Must have prior experience working in a manufacturing environment.
Must be mechanically inclined.
Must be able to work a 2nd shift (3:00 PM – 11:00 PM).
Plastic Machine Operator - Injection Molding
Set up, operate, or tend metal or plastic molding, casting, or coremaking machines to mold or cast metal or thermoplastic parts or products.
Observe continuous operation of automatic machines to ensure that products meet specifications and to detect jams or malfunctions, making adjustments as necessary.
Measure and visually inspect products for surface and dimension defects to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments.
Position and secure workpieces on machines, and start feeding mechanisms.
Turn valves and dials of machines to regulate pressure, temperature, and speed and feed rates, and to set cycle times.
Perform maintenance work such as cleaning and oiling machines.
Trim excess material from parts, using knives, and grind scrap plastic into powder for reuse.
Observe meters and gauges to verify and record temperatures, pressures, and press-cycle times.
Read specifications, blueprints, and work orders to determine setups, temperatures, and time settings required to mold, form, or cast plastic materials, as well as to plan production sequences.
Unload finished products from conveyor belts, pack them in containers, and place containers in warehouses.
Remove finished or cured products from dies or molds, using hand tools, air hoses, and other equipment, stamping identifying information on products when necessary.
Cool products after processing to prevent distortion.
Remove parts such as dies from machines after production runs are finished.
Inventory and record quantities of materials and finished products, requisitioning additional supplies as necessary.
Adjust equipment and workpiece holding fixtures, such as mold frames, tubs, and cutting tables, to ensure proper functioning.
Repair or replace damaged molds, pipes, belts, chains, or other equipment, using hand tools, hand-powered presses, or jib cranes.
Mix and measure compounds, or weigh premixed compounds, and dump them into machine tubs, cavities, or molds.
Obtain and move specified patterns to work stations, manually or using hoists, and secure patterns to machines, using wrenches.
Spray, smoke, or coat molds with compounds to lubricate or insulate molds, using acetylene torches or sprayers.
Connect water hoses to cooling systems of dies, using hand tools.
Maintain inventories of materials.
Operate hoists to position dies or patterns on foundry floors.
Preheat tools, dies, plastic materials, or patterns, using blowtorches or other equipment.
Smooth and clean inner surfaces of molds, using brushes, scrapers, air hoses, or grinding wheels, and fill imperfections with refractory material.
Select and install blades, tools, or other attachments for each operation.
Install dies onto machines or presses and coat dies with parting agents, according to work order specifications.
Pull level and toggle latches to fill molds, to regulate tension on sheeting, and to release mold covers.

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of all mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic functions of both injection molding equipment, and supporting automation (to include part retrieval and IML automation). This is a key technical support position with opportunity for training, development, and career growth.

Troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical and hydraulic problems on production equipment that uses electro-mechanical relay logic of PLC controls plus hydraulic, pneumatic and related equipment.

Utilize equipment manuals, analytical skills and test equipment to identify equipment problems and perform repairs.
Disassemble and repair hydraulic and pneumatic valves and cylinders.

Requirements and Experience:

Demonstrated strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
Must have excellent understanding of electrical, mechanical and hydraulic drawings to assist with troubleshooting equipment problems.

Our Manhattan, Montana facility is seeking a Machine Set Up Tech 3 to add to our team. The Machine Set Up Tech 3 is responsible for but not limited to: Technician must possess excellent knowledge of injection molding process, materials, molds and machinery. Technician must maintain molding schedules; evaluate parts based on quality standards and specifications, and assist machine operators as needed. Technician will assist material handler with start and setup procedures. This position supports 32 IMM's with a drive for 90% uptime along with 2 other machine set up technicians of varying experience. This position is a direct supporter/contributor to the success of the Operations Manager and any/all delegated work is expected to positively promote the Blackhawk brand.
Including but not limited to the following
Verify correct set-up of molds, presses, and auxiliary equipment before machine start up.
Establish proper molding conditions.
Perform mold changes and sampling runs according to molding schedule.
Assist with the set-up and maintenance of auxiliary equipment, including granulators, conveyors, liquid temperature controls, and mold electrical controls.
Make minor repairs to machines and equipment and notify proper personnel of necessary major repairs.
Relieve other molding technicians on breaks and in the event of absenteeism.
Train and assist machine operators
