This Compressor Design Engineer is responsible for mechanical design, analysis, testing, qualification and manufacturing integration of scroll, screw and centrifugal compressors used in commercial HVAC applications. Provide engineering support to ensure completion of milestones on time and within budget. Participate in developing and executing engineering projects, which includes the design, procurement, build, and testing of HVAC compressors. The successful candidate will be involved in engineering and administration of projects and will assist in obtaining and reviewing information and approvals for processing drawings, product data, and samples. Effectively communicate information across all levels of the project team.
Core Job Responsibilities (others may be added):
Mechanical design of scroll, screw and centrifugal compressors from concept selection to detailed drawings.
Facilitate design reviews. Conduct design FMEAs; develop and execute risk mitigation plans.
Create and maintain engineering documentation; including technical reports, lab test results, drawings, solid models and specifications.
Provide technical support to product engineering, manufacturing engineering and operations. Assure compatibility between design and process capabilities.
Work with draftsmen, suppliers, machinists, and lab technicians to deliver designs, parts, and assemblies that meet specifications on time and within budget.
Provide reports and data on the engineering project to carefully document the process, provide necessary invoicing, purchase needed materials and equipment.
Order, receive, and inventory parts for development projects using Oracle purchasing system.
Assess the part inspection records and provide guidance to engineering.
Review test plans and other technical documents with engineering and test technicians.
Assist in developing cost estimates and build/test schedules using MS Project Professional in IRPPM.
Assist in prioritizing activities of multiple projects to ensure smooth flow of all projects.
Maintain relevant Subject Matter Expertise: monitor new technology through supplier relationships, participation in technical societies, academic research projects and conferences.
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and at least 1 year work experience in product design or development is required.
Must be an effective team player with the ability to work with cross-functional or global groups, comfortable with and satisfied by group accomplishments.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
Mechanical aptitude with practical, hands-on hardware experience is desired.
Experience using project management software such as Microsoft Project is desired.
Computer skills in Microsoft Excel required. Experience with Pro-E is a plus.
Knowledge of engineering documentation, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and 3D modeling is a plus.

Compressor Tech - Intermediate
Performs activities related to operation and maintenance of compression station facility.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Operate and maintain compressor facility including but not limited to:
Monitor and control pressures, temperature and flow rates.
Start, stop, and operate engines to maintain designated operating pressures.
Performs minor repairs and assists mechanics and others in performing repairs to compressors, engines, turbines, auxiliary equipment, pumps, process controls, and related equipment.
Identify and report any safety and/or environmental concerns.
Compile and/or maintain information such as time sheets, work logs, and equipment maintenance and repair records.
Drive and ensure maintenance is complete on company vehicles.

Education and Experience

Sr Engineer - Reliability - Compressor Services
Functions as the company's expert in compressors and engines in the areas of mechanical performance, failure analysis, repairs, combustion and exhaust emissions. Manages and directs programs and/or projects within the department that provide department or company-wide benefits. Directs, monitors and assists team members and outside contractors with engineering technical guidance. Responsible for developing contracts and approving contract revisions for contractors, consultants and vendors. Monitor and adjust all mechanical/pneumatic equipment, control gauges, distributor panels, valves, thermostats, diffusers and other equipment necessary to provide a comfortable environment for the buildings.
Inspect engine room equipment, fan room equipment, cooling tower, all motors, house pumps and sump pumps.
Document and report activities.
Troubleshoot, evaluate and make recommendations to upgrade maintenance operations and/or implement savings opportunities.
Possess competent knowledge of the use and care of tools and equipment used in facility and ground maintenance.
Respond immediately to emergency situations and customer concerns.
Inspect buildings, ground and equipment for unsafe or malfunctioning conditions. Inspect new installation for compliance with building codes and safety regulations.
Maintain and operate life safety/fire systems.
Comply with all applicable codes, regulations, governmental agency and Company directives as related to building operations and practice safe work habits.
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
EPA refrigerant certification required.
Minimum 5 years building engineering/facilities management experience with significant supervisory responsibility.
Appropriate license/permit for trade as may be required, i.e. Journeyman or Master Electrician License or City Licenses.
Must possess basic computer skills, ability to operate Windows based software.
Argus and Paging System knowledge preferred.
Must have a thorough understanding of HVAC, electrical and building automation systems.
Ability to interpret mechanical and electrical blueprints and schematics.
Must be able to handle multiple projects and changing priorities.
Strong customer service orientation.
Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
Strong desire to succeed in an entrepreneurial environment.
Stooping, standing, climbing and frequent lifting of a minimum of 50 lbs. of equipment (pump, tools, ladders) and ability to safely install rigging/lifting device.
Maybe required to work extended periods of time without relief when responding to priority/emergency situations (including overtime type assignments.)
May require shift work and/or on-call duty.
