Knowledge of Microsoft, Citrix, and Red hat products and working knowledge of Operating Systems for desktops and servers (Server 2003 & 2008, Linux Red Hat). Knowledge of PC and server hardware peripherals, ability to troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and connectivity issues (including user access and component configuration). Knowledge of principles and theories of network protocols and systems (Ethernet, TCP/IP, Internet technologies, and network essentials). Have an understanding of remote administration of servers. Certifications (Microsoft, Red Hat, and/or A+ / Net+). Knowledge of HLCS, MFC, SCADA, HubCam, DWB, Load Handling, OPSYS, Target Search, Flex Ops, GSS, CME View, AHCS and DASH systems are very helpful.
Experience with servers, mainframe, networks or other related IT experience such as programming is a plus. Understanding of DHCP, Active Directory, DNS, Oracle, Shell Scripting and PL/SQL.
Candidate should enjoy working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, and be customer-focused.

- Your role*
These are 8-hour daytime positions prior to launch, with the expectation that pre-launch testing will also require shift work and additional hours. Shift-work is a requirement of the position and will begin shortly before the scheduled JWST launch. Normal operations will consist of a 12-hour per shift rotating schedule.
As a Console Engineer you are a member of the JWST Flight Operations Team (FOT), operating the Flight Operations System (FOS) to monitor the activities of the JWST Observatory and supporting ground systems to ensure the JWST Flight Operations System (FOS) is operating normally. Your role may include the following:
Provide 24x7 operations of the Observatory
Operate the JWST FOS, and communicate with DSN, in support of real-time Observatory operations
Monitor the health and safety of the Observatory and ground systems
Provide real-time evaluation of the telemetry and statistical trends to ensure instruments and spacecraft subsystems are operating within nominal ranges
Perform real-time activities to transmit commands and loads to the Observatory.
Manage the spacecraft recorder to maximize science data collection
Maintain console records of daily activities, and respond to activity requests and engineering changes
Provide support for anomaly response and troubleshooting
Develop and maintain operations products (scripts, pages and tools) and processes used to conduct launch and commissioning operations
Support the development and presentation of flight operations material for project level reviews

Receives and relays internal and external calls and provides general information according to protocol.
Maintains desk directories, on-call list, reference guides and other associated reference materials.
Operates beeper and paging system to contact personnel and code team.
Communicates codes, alerts, drills and other announcements according to established policies and protocols, including disaster management plans.
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 1+ years fast paced multi-line switchboard experience required.
