The Metro Boston Area is looking for a experienced and motivated Utility Plant Operator. Detailed summary of job function . Incumbent operates, maintains and repairs boilers, heating hot water and chilled water systems; operates electronic controls for heating and air conditioning systems; monitor general mechanical and/or electrical repairs on power distribution, heating hot water, chilled water, gas, domestic and de-ionized water, signal, fire alarm, security, remote building equipment monitoring, sanitary, acid waste and storm drain systems.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1) Operates, maintains and repairs heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems, including heating hot water systems, chilled water recirculating pumps, chilled water condenser pumps, air compressors, air-supply and recirculating fans, electric heating coils, electric cabinet unit heaters, electric baseboard radiation units, pedestal electric baseboard heating units, cooling coils and chilled water BTU meters, water treatment systems, generators and refrigeration compressors. 2) Operates a high voltage power distribution system including switches on generating equipment; operates, maintains and repairs generators and related equipment. 3) Operates and maintains sewerage and drainage system and treatment systems, including pressurized main drain system and associated equipment. 4) Inspects machinery; reads meters and gauges; performs tests on chilled water, heating hot water to maintain compliance and quality of water; starts and stops equipment and machinery according to schedules. 5) Operates, maintains and repairs piping systems such as those for boiler feed water, condensate and heat transfer systems. 6) Maintains operating logs, records and reports on all equipment; draws stock and materials for maintenance and repairs; measures and reports fuel levels to appropriate personnel. 7) Implements the lubrication schedule for heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment and auxiliary equipment.

General Description: Under strict supervision, the Bulk Plant Operator is responsible for maintaining sufficient inventory for upcoming jobs and keeping the plant in good working order so that blending of materials can be completed in a systematic and well-organized manner.
To do this, the Bulk Plant Operator is also responsible for keeping an inventory of cement/additives, acids/additives and all chemicals on an ongoing basis. NATURE OF WORK To perform as assistant shift leader in the assigned department and work in the absence of or to assist both shift lead and the Production Supervisor in the daily functions of the department. To review daily production and prioritize work; instruct, assign, review, and coordinate the work of others in the absence of the shift lead.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Ensure adherence to all quality systems including, but not limited to, ISO 9001 and Food Safety, with an understanding of DuPont’s Quality Policy and procedures; including adherence of all employees working in the department.
Comply with all Company policies including, but not limited to, Quality, Safety, Food Safety, Environmental, GMP's, HAACP, and Attendance. Lead by example and train others to do so as well including correcting others’ actions when not in compliance.
Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions to make the necessary adjustments in the production process, such as adjusting control instrumentation, and moving products and raw materials.
Recognize atypical/incorrect conditions in the production area as they pertain to GMP, quality and food safety requirements and correct or contact the appropriate authority. The assistant lead may be required to perform informal GMP or food safety checks throughout production.
Ensure that production delays are documented and followed up on, including logging downtime and reason codes, ensuring appropriate follow-ups such as work notifications are initiated, and the communicating delay reason and impact across the CP production team.
Perform as shift leader for production continuity of the unit while performing normal duties and assisting the shift leader in assigning work to others and checking results including documentation. Assistant lead is expected to perform a brief check of production paperwork at the beginning and end of each shift.
Serve as the crew’s point person for new initiatives designed to improve production continuity and capacity release and improve cross-shift communication tools (area-specific Visual Management Boards, etc.).
Assist in training new employees in the unit, recognize gaps in training, and assist in coordinating the necessary training. The lead will all work to expand his or her training to all areas of production as needed. Expertise and ownership may be area-specific.
Assist in troubleshooting production issues within knowledge and skill set. Additional training may be provided to facilitate.
Perform effectively and nearly equivalently as shift leader in the shift leader’s absence.

Must have a high school education or equivalent, a successful work history, the ability to work as a team player, and proven mechanical ability.

Monitors SCADA to operate and control electric motors, pumps, valves, and filters to regulate flow of water through the plant. Controls, operates, and monitors mixers, vacuum pumps, sludge blanket levels, sludge blanket concentrations and sludge removal to clarify the water. Monitors SCADA to remotely adjust and control pumps, motors, and chemical feed equipment, to regulate pressures, water elevations, flow of water, and quality of water in the distribution system.
Monitors filter operation to maintain water quality and determine backwashing scheduling. Collects and tests water samples from various process points to determine acidity, color, turbidity, pH, bacteria content, treatment application, odor, and other impurities, using various laboratory equipment such as electrodes, colorimeters, mixers, turbidimeters, titrators, mixers and hot plates.
Maintains and tests online analytical instruments monitoring water quality. Records data such as test results, chemical dosages, weights, and volumes, water quality information, operational problems, and compliance monitoring as required by various State and Federal regulations.
Responds to consumer complaints, emergencies, answers telephone or makes notification to appropriate supervisors about same. Loads / unloads / receives chemicals and materials used to purify and operate the water treatment systems. Cleans and maintains work place.
