This position reports to the Phosphoric Acid Department Supervisor.
Control and adjust the evaporator operation based on process variables such as phosphoric feed acid strength, phosphoric acid product quality, steam availability, and pond water temperature – (vacuum). The position is typically involved with the concentration to three types of phosphoric acid (e.g. low sulfate green 57%, amber 54% and defluorinated 54%).
Record evaporator / tank farm operational data, sample analysis, and data on environmental equipment. Maintain log sheet recording of tank strapping, sludge solids, sludge transfer volumes, and amp load readings on pumps and rakes to ensure proper operation.
Troubleshoot operational problems and initiate corrective action or work orders to maintain equipment, meet acid quality and quantity requirements.
Obtain samples for control of evaporator product quality, evaporator boil out water, solids content of tank farm sludge, and strap storage tanks and rock silos for production calculations.
Adjust flocculent addition to the clarifiers to ensure product quality with respect to solids content. Transfer clarified acid to evaporator feed tanks to assist in maintaining product acid quality.
Transfer 30% acid to the Tank Farm area to meet Fertilizer requirements. Transfer 54% and Deflourinated phosphoric acid to the Liquids / Tank Farm area to meet product sales requirements and allow for optimized production rates. Transfer 57% green phosphoric acid to the Tank Farm area to meet Purified Acid feed stock requirements.
Transfer sludge to attack system for re-filtration.
Remove excess sludge from tanks, when required, through tank cone valves and sludge pump suction blinds.
Periodically wash transfer/export lines as production, storage, and shipment requirements allow.
Perform necessary equipment checks for safety and environmental compliance. For example, inspect tanks, lines, pumps, and scrubbers in the tank farm area to ensure they are operating in a safe and environmentally sound manner.
Prepare equipment for down-day and perform required preventive maintenance. Prepare safe work permits and confined space permits as required. Lockout and tag necessary equipment.
Monitor unit operation to minimize product loss to the pond system and maximize return of condensate.
Provide training for fellow operators.
Provide assistance during power outages, acid spills, cleaning plugged lines and sumps, starting conveyors and cleaning rock belts, evaporators, or attack system down-days as necessary.
Adjusts process variables to ensure product quality of the evaporator and clarifier product acid. Determines necessary sludge transfer rates to maintain acceptable sludge solids level in the clarifiers.
Consults with "A" Operator and/or Shift Supervisor regarding shut down of evaporators or clarifying tanks for repair. For example, when a tank must be removed from service due to inadequate sludge flow or when a rake stops turning.
Identifies causes of problems and issues corrective action, either by modifying a process variable or preparing a work order.
Must react promptly while in the field to determine corrective actions for environmental spills. Must report all spills immediately to A-Operator or Supervisor
Coordinates transfers with A-Operator for product transfer.
Adjusts acid transfer within the Phosphoric Acid area to maintain product quality.
Perform other related duties as assigned including housekeeping.
Must participate in training in the following areas and apply knowledge effectively:
1 through 20 evaporator operations and tank farm operations and their relation to other Phos Acid area operations, namely attack system operation and storage tank operation.
Hazardous communication, respiratory protection, hearing conversation, MSHA policy and procedures, and H2S safety
Hazard Recognition, Safe Work Permitting, Confined Space and Lockout and Tag.
High School Diploma or equivalent
Must be able to work a 12-hour rotating shift schedule.
This position requires continuous attention in safety and environmental awareness, climbing stairs and ladders, maintaining logs and records. Requires moderate effort in collecting samples, opening and closing valves, and performing down-day activities within vessels.
Agreeable with working in conditions where exposure to dust, dirt, noise, water, acid, and inclement weather is likely.
The National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) testing is required for all hourly applicants of Nutrien. Applicants must complete this test and meet a minimum of 5 in Reading, 5 on Applied Math and 4 on Locating Information in order to be considered eligible for employment with Nutrien.

Equipment Operator - Oilfield Acid Operator
This job will be located in Union City, Oklahoma.
The Equipment Operators primary responsibility will be the rigging up and rigging down of Acid Treating Equipment. The Equipment Operators will also be responsible for operating and transporting all equipment in a safe manner in accordance with the FMCSA.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
Safe operation and maintenance of assigned equipment
Transporting US DOT regulated vehicle on public roads and on location.
Safely rig up, operate and maintain Blenders, Pumps, Chem Add and Hydration Units.
Safely rig up, operate and maintenance of high pressure iron.
Proper DOT logging.
Pre-trip inspections and post trip inspections.
Usage and care of proper PPE.
All other job duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Must possess a CDL.
Must possess hazardous material and tanker endorsements.
Fracturing / Acid experience is preferred, oilfield experience a plus.
