ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1.Makes custards, fillings, mousses, & pies according to bakery recipes
2.Measures ingredients using measuring cups & scales
3.Mixes ingredients using mixers or by hand using whips
4.Prepares and cooks ingredients for glazes, fillings, and custards on stove top or steam kettle
5.Ices and decorates various cakes & pastries using spatulas and piping bags
6.Cleans, peels, & slices fruit for use in fruit tarts using hand tools
7.Make various garnishes to top / finish bakery desserts (dark chocolate, etc)
8.Maintains all pastry department tools, supplies, & tables clean.
9.Reports all equipment problems to the supervisor or manager immediately.
10. Helps in training of new employees or employees who change job classifications.
11. Cooperate on all matters relating to safety and health in the work area and positively promote safety in our operations.
12. Understand and comply with all general and specific safe job procedures that apply to your job.
13. Plan and carry out job assignments without creating hazards to yourself and other employees.
14. Report all unsafe conditions or equipment immediately.
15. Immediately report to your Supervisor/Manager all accidents and obtain first aid for all injuries no matter how minor.

This person will sometimes be required to go in & out of the bakery walk in coolers and freezers – reaching temperatures anywhere from 45 degrees (F) to minus 5 degrees (F). Personal protective equipment will be provided to the employee for excessive noise / temperatures.

Takes direction and is mentored by Lead bakers in order to better prepare themselves for advancement.
Guest interaction is a must. Must engage the guest each time they come to the buffet line. Explain product, ask question and build positive relationships with the guest.
Assists in work direction and mentoring Bakers Helper so they learn duties of the Baker position to be prepare them for advancement.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Demonstrated ability to prepare a wide variety of food items, to standard, in a high-volume, fast-paced operation.
Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of the application of sanitation procedures.

Maintain adherence to sanitation/health regulations and requirements. Meet with the Chef to review assignments, anticipate business levels, changes, and other information.
Prepare ingredients for cooking, including portioning, chopping, and storing food so that they are ready for service. Continue preparation work between meal services. Prepare and cook food according to recipes, quality standards, presentation standards, and food preparation checklist.
Monitor food quality while preparing food. Weigh, measure, and mix ingredients according to recipes or personal judgment. Test foods to determine if they have been cooked sufficiently, using methods such as tasting, smelling, or piercing them with utensils.
Ensure proper portion, arrangement, and food garnish are served. Serve food in proper portions onto proper receptacle. Anticipate and communicate any assistance needed during busy periods.
Be aware of food and labor costs and monitor food levels to minimize waste and maintain controls to meet forecasted food costs and identify instances of shortages when items may run out. The Straz Center has an ongoing search for part time Pastry Cooks. The Pastry Cook is responsible for preparing high quality food based on guidelines set by their supervisors.
