Composite Layup Technician 1
Fabricates, assembles and performs composite layup by applying knowledge of working characteristics of bonding techniques by utilizing precision instruments, hand tools, power tools, machines and equipment. 1. Works from process sheets, or verbal instructions identifying the type and sequence of operations needed to construct a variety of parts used for the production of antennae assemblies to meet contractual requirements. 2.
Prepares tooling/fixturing used for fabrication and coupon testing. 3. Operates standard equipment to remedy in-process conditions such as excess or insufficient resin, trapped air pockets or delamination. 4. Wraps bonding fixture or mold in vacuum bagging materials, attaches fittings to mold or fixture, such as vacuum connections, thermocouples, and probes, and exhausts air from vacuum bag to prepare lamination for curing or bonding. 7. Cuts material to size, using shears, knives, cutters, scissors, router, or saw. 8.
Lays out cutting lines on materials, such as sheet stock, fiberglass or core maximum, following template pattern, blueprints, sketches, or sample part, using measuring and marking instruments. 9. Set-up and operate curing ovens and autoclaves, to meet defined objectives as needed. 10. Cures product either under heat lamps or in oven hooking appropriate heat and cooling lines, adjusting steam pressure and water valves as needed. 11.
Verifies work using verniers, height gauges, dial indicators, micrometers, etc. 12.
Performs structural testing utilizing mechanical test equipment to verify bond line integrity. 13. Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.
Required Skills And Education Requires a High School diploma or equivalent plus two (2) years experience in industrial composite/plastics fabrication.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following
· Ensures part kit and lay-up mandrel match by part number
· Unpacks part kit and organizes it according to the Planning Documents
· Fills out material data sheets as required by directions in the Planning
· Performs any remaining tool preparation as required in the Planning.
· Performs fabrication operations as necessary to ensure correct lay up of parts
· Cleans up work area as each ply is applied to prevent any foreign matter (FOD) inclusion in the part
· Requests help from trainers and/or leads at any time during the process insuring the part is correct and issues addressed while the part is in the lay-up stage
· Follows bagging procedures and performs leak test to ensure leak test passes or meets specifications
· Finishes fabrication of part by keeping the part under vacuum until it is ready for the Autoclave process
· Completes all data on fabricated parts as required by the Planning
· Follows any additional required work procedures as necessary for a given part. This may be in addition to the Planning procedure
· May be required to handle hazardous chemicals with proper personal protective equipment (PPE)
· Performs cleanup operations and work area as required by the Lead or Supervisor
· Performs other duties as assigned
· A clean room DOES NOT ALLOW ANY food, drink, gum, chewing tobacco, mints, etc. at any time
· Must wear cleanroom equipment and PPE such as lab coats, and gloves

FIBERGLASS LAYUP TECHNICIAN
Duties: Individual will layup, chop, roll, form and/or assemble fiberglass using various hand tools (saws, drills, and routers) and chopper gun. In addition, this person will be trained to prepare fiberglass molds and assist with the forming and trimming of plastic and any other areas within the department as needed.
Candidate must have previous production/shop floor experience in a manufacturing environment using various hand tools (i.e. saws, drills, routers). Ability to follow verbal instructions, work efficiently and within production deadlines (both independently and on a team), read a tape measure, pass a respirator physical and fit test, lift and carry at least 30 lbs. and be able to pass a background and drug screen. This person must know they don't display an allergic reaction to fiberglass material and/or resin and must have an interest and desire to learn our complex fiberglass processes.
Ideal candidate will have 1-2 years work experience in fiberglass layup. Proficient use of hand tools and experience operating a chopper and gel coat gun. Ability to read and interpret blueprints/drawings and other manufacturing skills a plus (i.e. paint, vacuum form, etc.).

Bores holes for insertion of screws or dowels. Drives nails or other fasteners into joints at designated places to reinforce joints. Sands and scrapes surfaces and joints of articles to prepare articles for finishing.
