Position Purpose The 3rd Shift
Cooker Operator in our rendering department is an important role in the daily operations of our facilities. This job is important because it is vital to our process to process product and waste from various divisions around our facilities into rendered products. The 3rd Shift
Cooker Operato r must be trained in lock out tag out for safety reasons. To perform this job machinery must be locked out so the employee can safely check various components of the equipment. In order to perform this job, employees must maintain equipment that cooks product into tallow. The process must be documented multiple times a day and the record will be kept manually or digitally. There may be some data that is not collected at all facilities based on business unit or even plant specific information required. While performing the duties of a 3rd shift
Cooker Operator , the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions with slippery surfaces at varied heights; moving mechanical parts; fast paced, high noise disciple, warm/cool environment. Positions require standing or walking the entire shift, the use of stairs, and the use of PPE which is required in all areas of the facility.

Description: Land O’ Lakes is a dairy farmer cooperative that is focused on delivering value to its farmer owners by investing in supporting current and future improvements in dairy operations and management. Corn silage is an important part of animal nutrition and welfare that underpins dairy sustainability. Through breeding we are improving corn varieties for key corn silage performance traits. Dairy requirements for corn silage are exacting and offer the exciting breeding challenge of configuring Zea mays allelic diversity to meet these specifications. We invest in building tools that enable breeder decision-making and the practice of breeding craft. We work on all aspects of the breeding pipeline (line development, hybrid creation, trait introgression, parent seed maintenance). As such, we offer an authentic classical field breeding experience that is directly accountable to farmers and their animals and has excellent opportunities for advancement as we commercialize our research pipeline.
The associate breeder will support creation, testing, selection, and advancement of corn silage germplasm.
This role will also participate in corn line development, commercial hybrid development, trait introgression, and breeder seed increase and purification.
The role will help guide process improvement and establishment of standard operating procedures in terms of electronic record management, seed lab activities, field activities, and data usage.
The associate breeder will network across business units from manufacturing to sales and will be in a position to help set strategic direction for Land O’ Lakes corn silage research and development. Job responsibilities
Lead data and record management work for global nursery and yield trial work.
Support planning, execution, and analysis of yield trial experiments and nursery fields.
Organization of breeding program inventory and maintenance of track and trace integrity and seed source quality.
Coordinate breeding program connections and key hand-offs with other business functions (e.g. manufacturing, sales, trait development).
Support Davis Excellence Through Stewardship (ETS) lead for corn in implementing program activities for managing transgenic material. Identify and plan internship opportunities and recruit and supervise interns. Lead on-site training for field work such as pollination, note taking, harvest, etc.
Lead continuous process improvement initiatives for all aspects of the breeding program.
Other key responsibilities include helping to keep spending within budget, hiring and supervising seasonal staff, calendar based activity management, advancement and deployment of germplasm. Required qualifications
Masters / Bachelors of Science in Plant Breeding, Animal Breeding, Genetics, Agronomy, Horticulture or related field.
