Orthotic Fitter
Are you looking for an exciting opportunity?
We currently have a full-time opening for an Orthotic Fitter in Shreveport, LA. If you are looking for a fast paced environment where you can make a difference every day, then this is the opportunity for you! The Orthotic Fitter performs the fitting and delivery of prefabricated orthotic devices and/or soft goods. S/he will provide professional customer service and patient education.
Your day will be very busy… you will:
Patient fitting of cervical orthoses except those used to treat unstable cervical conditions.
Patient fitting of prefabricated orthoses for the upper and lower extremities except those used in the initial and/or acute treatment of long bone fractures and dislocation, therapeutic (diabetic) shoes/inserts and functional electrical stimulation (myorthosis)
Patient fitting of prefabricated spinal orthoses, except those used in the treatment of idiopathic scoliosis and unstable spinal conditions.
Patient fitting of pressure gradient garments.
Patient fitting and instruction with off-the-shelf orthotic devices as prescribed as well as ancillary durable medical equipment (DME) products.
Patient assessment, formulation of a treatment plan, and implementation of the treatment plan, follow up and practice management.
Obtains patient demographics and authorizations as necessary prior to, or immediately after, fitting patient's orthotic device(s), and follow through with entering this information into computer system. Obtains patient's authorization and signatures. Collects co-payments and documentation of the co-payments or payment agreement into the patient's records.
Order and maintain inventory and inventory records.

What your background will be:

Understanding of basic Anatomy, Physiology, Medical terminology, Insurance Claims, and Insurance Benefits and orthopedic injuries and conditions as they relate to the application of OTS bracing.
Computer proficient to include web browser/internet search, MS Outlook and Word capabilities. Technical competence includes the ability to learn new software and systems.

Responsible for safe operation and care/maintenance of equipment
Tack and weld steel, stainless steel and aluminum in accordance with welding codes and specifications

Must have working knowledge of the following topics; blue print reading, ability to draw and interpret isometric diagrams, be or be able to be certified to B31. 1 Pipe Welding Code as well as 6-G in stainless steel. Observes tests on welded surfaces, such as hydrostatic, x-ray, and dimension tolerance to evaluate weld quality and conformance to specifications. Inspects grooves, angles, or gap allowances, using micrometer, caliper, and precision measuring instruments.
Removes rough spots from work piece, using portable grinder, hand file, or scraper. 8. Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions. Heats, forms, and dresses metal parts, using hand tools, torch, or arc welding equipment.
Ignites torch and adjusts valves, amperage, or voltage to obtain desired flame or arc. 9. Analyzes engineering drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations. Develops templates and other work aids to hold and align parts.
Determines required equipment and welding method, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques. 10. Works from elevated areas such as ladders, platforms, scaffolding, etc. utilizing fall protection equipment as necessary to complete tasks. Must have the flexibility to work all shifts including holidays and weekends as demanded by the job. Perform other tasks, to include but not limited to mechanical repairs and maintenance, as assigned by Supervisor.

Basic Fundamental Functions:
Lay out, position, align and fit together fabricated parts of structural metal products according to blueprint and layout specifications.
Must pass all tack tests: GMAW (Mig), FACW (Flux Core), SMAW (Stick).

Perform daily cleaning and maintenance of area.

Essential functions – required within 45 days after trial period:

Properly fit mill to bear stiffeners.
Operate various pieces of grinding equipment for extended periods.
Operate cutting and heating torches – ability to accurately perform simple heat corrections.
With minimal assistance, check camber and sweep tolerances of girders and beams and be able to effectively make necessary corrections per pertinent codes and specifications.
Tack weld in all positions using multiple welding processes.
Grind parts, torque bolts and operate mechanical and manual cutting equipment.
Produce a finished product that meets recognized standards, codes and customer expectations by maintaining quality procedures and practices within the guidelines of AWS D1.5 fitting tolerances.
Identify potential hazards and make necessary corrections.
Read and interpret weld symbols on shop drawings and prints, and apply information accordingly.

Physical Demands:
The ability to stand continuously is essential with occasional walking and sitting. The nature of the position will require employee to perform a wide range of physcial activites ranging from pushing and pulling, lifting and carrying heavy objects (60–100 lbs) to climbing, crouching, kneeling, bending and handling. Repetitive finger, hand and arm motions are required. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
Work Environment:
Works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. Is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles. Occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. Exposed to the risk of flash burn of eyes and exposed skin burns. Noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.

The Marine Pipefitter trainee program is a joint partnership between Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, Workforce Development and several local Virginia Community Colleges. The trainee program provides a candidate with the unique opportunity to build a career in shipbuilding. We encourage you to join our team of legacy skilled craftsman and apply today.
This UNPAID course is 3 weeks (120 hours) long designed to prepare candidates to enter the pipefitting program at NNS. The course will cover safety, an introduction to pipefitting and pipefitting skills, a validation of basic pipefitter competencies, and an evaluation of employability skills. This program is designed to be 90% hands-on, focusing on a candidate's ability to follow verbal and written instruction, display manual dexterity consistent with the pipefitting craft, accomplish specific tasks in a reasonable time, and perform all activities in a safe manner.
All candidates are required to complete a Newport News Shipbuilding job application. Selected candidates will be scheduled to complete work keys testing, and an interview.
Offers of employment will be given to those candidates selected to participate in this program. The offer will include several contingencies including drug screen, physical and background check. Once the candidate has cleared the drug screen and physical they will be accepted in to the program.
The UNPAID training program will be for 3 weeks from 7 am to 3:30 pm, Monday
- Friday. If selected to participate in this training program, then the candidate will need to complete the college's enrollment process and pay a $250 tuition fee to the community college where the training will take place. With the completion of the training program, along with meeting all other contingencies previously mentioned, the candidate will be given a start to work date through Newport News Shipbuilding and hired as a Pipefitter.
Once the employee starts to work, they will be reimbursed the $250 (subject to tax withholding) by Newport News Shipbuilding.
