Motor Grader Operator
The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating heavy equipment on a construction jobsite in a safe manner. Heavy equipment may include: front-end loaders, bulldozers, scrapers, blades, pavers, trimmers, mixers or compactors. The Heavy equipment operator must also complete prestart checks, assist with fluid checks and maintenance, securing the equipment, cleaning, and other duties as directed by the Foreman or Division Manager.
- Responsible for operating equipment in a safe and efficient manner according to company policy, as well as manufacturer’s guidelines.
- Responsible for performing daily maintenance & safety checks.
- Responsible for cleaning equipment as required.
- Responsible for making sure that equipment is secured at the end of the shift.
- May perform other duties as assigned by Foreman or Division Manager.
- Must be able to follow directions and operate equipment safely.
- Must have some mechanical ability/knowledge.
- Must have a working knowledge of construction jobsite activities.
- Must be able to climb, stoop, bend, and squat as required for various duties with the equipment.
- Must be able work outdoors in extreme temperatures, both hot and cold.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 60 lbs.
- Must adhere to safety requirements as outline in the Employee Handbook.
- Must be able to work in a team environment and assist co-workers and supervisors with other duties as required.

Grader/Sorters are primarily responsible for grading and sorting incoming metal products according to factors such as appearance and quality to ensure correct processing and usage. Other responsibilities include general yard cleanup and other maintenance functions.
This is a physical job, so applicants must be able to frequently walk on uneven ground, handle and grasp materials, crouch, bend, reach, climb, twist, push, pull and lift/carry up to 50 pounds occasionally. Visual acuity is needed for close detail work. To ensure safety everyone's safety at work, applicants must be able to hear and communicate by speech.

General clean up and yard maintenance including but not limited to digging, sweeping, maintenance of weeds and brush, and repaid of blacktop.
Basic sorting of scrap, as well as metal and debris in preparation processing.

Assist with repairs and maintenance as required at railroad.
Provide backup or assistance throughout the yard as needed or assigned.
Report all equipment deficiencies or malfunctions for maintenance or repair to the proper supervisor.
Candidates must have the ability to carry out instructions provided in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.
Ability to speak and understand English as a basic level required.
Ability to learn new tasks as assigned required.
Experience in a scrap yard preferred.
This position requires possession of a valid driver's license and the ability to drive an automobile.

Job Summary: Knife River – American Fork Division is seeking hard-working, qualified, and responsible individuals to safely operate self-propelled grader to spread and level dirt, gravel and stone to grade specification in construction maintenance and earthwork structures such as highways, streets, airports, dikes and temporary roads.

The Motor Grader Operator position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the self-propelled motor grader. The Motor Grader Operator performs either rough or fine grade finishing, precisely spreading and mixing materials in order to dry and prep roads, construct road surface to precise grade specifications, lay cold mix, and/or shave and rip out old road surfaces.

Coordinates the various types of equipment transporting chips, snow or water.
Directs where chips, snow or water is placed. Proceeds to spread these materials to a desired lift height.
Coordinates with the water truck operator regarding the amount and location to spread water over chips and snow.
Checks the width of the road often to ensure the outside edges get enough water to support the drilling rig well on the outside edge.
Informs supervisor of any incidents involving injury, spills, equipment malfunction and/or damage.
Ensures a safe work environment.
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to analyze weather conditions and recognize hazards prior to the start of work.
Ability to attach pulley and blocks to fixed overhead structures such as beams, ceilings, and gin pole booms with bolts and clamps.
