Schedule: Full Time 1.0 FTE / Day Shift
Prepares tissuesand slides for microscopic exam. Performs microscopic examinations and cytologyscreening.
Minimum: Successful completion ofthe registry examination for Cytology, CT (ASCP). California Cytotechnologistlicense
E Minimum: 1-2 years cytology experience. 1-2 yearsexperience with fine needle aspiration procedures.
Preferred: Cytology specimen processing andpreparation experience preferred
Minimum: Bachelor of science degree incytotechnology or a related science field

Cytologist - Rockville Regional Laboratory
Description: Under indirect supervision, performs interpretative microscopic evaluation for gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytology specimens, including fine needle aspiration specimens.
Diagnosis & report final cytology interpretation of normal gynecologic specimens and prepare preliminary interpretation of abnormal gynecological as well as all non-gynecological samples for pathologist's review and final diagnosis. Records and analyzes findings, correlates data and reports results in accordance with accepted practice and compliance requirements.
Performs microscopic examination of cellular specimens to recognize, identify and screen for evidence of morphologic changes. Analyzes and classifies cellular constituents in accordance with established criteria.
Identifies questionable cellular configuration and reviews the patient clinical history to establish preliminary interpretation of abnormal morphological features based upon cellular evidence in conjunction with pertinent cognitive knowledge; reports findings and presents specimen to supervisor and/or pathologist for evaluative diagnosis.
Prepares final reports of gynecological cytology specimens which have been classified as normal or without evidence of cellular abnormalities & presents abnormal gynecological as well as all non-gynecological specimens, including fine needle aspirations to the pathologists for evaluative diagnosis.
Performs cytopreparatory techniques and staining-/ cover slipping procedures ensuring that established techniques are utilized; labels specimens and conforms to the standards of the departmental quality control program.
Enters and retrieves information using the laboratory information system(s) where required.
Performs quality control and quality assurance procedures according to established protocol.
Assures that adequate department supply levels are maintained in a cost effective manner.
Assists supervisor with the training and orientation of new employees and medical staff.
Keep abreast of changing techniques, procedures, interpretive findings associated with cytology through participation in continuing education.
Performs other related duties as directed.
One year minimum experience will be considered.
Minimum two (2) years of recent full time cytology laboratory experience required. Education
Bachelor's degree in clinical lab, physical, or biological science required, OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field.
High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required. License, Certification, Registration
Possess CT (ASCP) Board of Registry certification.
Demonstration of a passing score of (90%) for all Gynecological Cytology Proficiency Testing events (CLIA and CAP requirement).
Completed an accredited cytology program.
Documented completion of Hologic Thin Prep training.
Minimum five (5) years fulltime cytology lab experience with screening of non-gynecological including FNA specimens.

POSITION SUMMARY: Cytological screening of Non-GYN and GYN cases.
Cytologist will also be present in the operating room to provide onsite adequacy of FNA's, EBUS, and EUS procedures when needed. Maintains, troubleshoots and repairs instruments and lab equipment if possible. Verifies orders from scripts and orders procedures in HIS and LIS.
Assists in clerical duties as needed. Assists in the training of new employees and students. Segregates laboratory wastes according to established policies. Works on special projects as requested by Director.
