- Screens and diagnoses gynecologic cytology smears (Pap smears) according to established criteria. Is responsible for final diagnosis of negative cases. 2.
Screens and diagnoses, and refers to the supervisor and the pathologist, nongynecologic and atypical gynecologic cytology smears according to established criteria. 3. Assists the pathologist at fine needle aspirations in the Radiology Suite by preparing and staining slides for rapid interpretation. 4. Is familiar with pathology and hospital computer systems, and all record keeping, accessioning, and reporting tasks as defined in the procedure manual. 5.
Analyzes sperm morphology in semen samples and enters and verifies results in patient computer records. 6. Is familiar with various methods of cytopreparation, staining, and coverslipping for all cytologic specimens and troubleshoots same. 7. Is familiar with specimen rejection policies as well as collection and transportation policies. 8.
Cares for and maintains equipment, particularly microscopes and work area, and reports problems with equipment to the supervisor. 9. Plans own daily work in accordance with posted job rotation and daily staffing, and prioritizes duties to accomplish daily objectives of the Laboratory. 10. Keeps the supervisor informed of activities, and refers needs, problems, and unusual cases to the supervisor. 11.
Maintains professional growth and development through attendance at continuing education sessions within the Laboratory, and at seminars, workshops, conferences, or professional meetings outside the hospital. 12. 1.Must be qualified according to CLIA '88 FINAL RULES. CT-ASCP certified or eligible. 2. Up-to-date knowledge of the field of cytotechnology. This can be acquired through recent completion of an ASCP-approved training program or through recent cytology work experience and attendance at continuing education seminars and workshops. 3. Extended periods of visual acuity and mental concentration in a small room in order to interpret cellular changes and render accurate diagnoses of patient samples.

Cytologist - Rockville Regional Laboratory
Under indirect supervision, performs interpretative microscopic evaluation for gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytology specimens, including fine needle aspiration specimens. Diagnosis & report final cytology interpretation of normal gynecologic specimens and prepare preliminary interpretation of abnormal gynecological as well as all non-gynecological samples for pathologist's review and final diagnosis. Records and analyzes findings, correlates data and reports results in accordance with accepted practice and compliance requirements.
Performs microscopic examination of cellular specimens to recognize, identify and screen for evidence of morphologic changes. Analyzes and classifies cellular constituents in accordance with established criteria.
Identifies questionable cellular configuration and reviews the patient clinical history to establish preliminary interpretation of abnormal morphological features based upon cellular evidence in conjunction with pertinent cognitive knowledge; reports findings and presents specimen to supervisor and/or pathologist for evaluative diagnosis.
Prepares final reports of gynecological cytology specimens which have been classified as normal or without evidence of cellular abnormalities & presents abnormal gynecological as well as all non-gynecological specimens, including fine needle aspirations to the pathologists for evaluative diagnosis.
Performs cytopreparatory techniques and staining-/ cover slipping procedures ensuring that established techniques are utilized; labels specimens and conforms to the standards of the departmental quality control program.
Enters and retrieves information using the laboratory information system(s) where required.
Performs quality control and quality assurance procedures according to established protocol.

Lab Supervisor - Lab Outreach (MT Required), FT - Days, Piedmont Athens Regional
The supervisor provides direct supervision of the daily operations of the laboratory section and/or area. The supervisor will oversee and efficiently perform procedures and test as ordered for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease.
The supervisor will oversee that the maintenance of the analyzers, quality control, collection of specimens, maintaining of supplies in accordance with standards of practice and established policy and procedure. The supervisor will provide recommendations and action plans for the improvement of system processes in their section and/or area.
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Bachelor's Degree from a recognized college or university in Medical Technology or a closely related field is required.

3.Maintain procedures and records to meet all regulatory standards.
4.Perform other duties as necessary for efficient operation of the department
5.Actively seeks ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, qualify of care or the services delivered.
6.Demonstrates knowledge of the occurrence reporting system. Uses system to report potential patient safety issues.
7.Follows established guidelines for reporting a significant medical error or unanticipated outcome in the patient's care which results in patient harm.
8.Attends inservice presentations and completes all mandatory education requirements.
9.Uses Performance Improvement Plan to improve patient safety.
10. Regular, Punctual and dependable attendance.
11. Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED:
- Two year Associate Degree required
- Licensed Cytologist required
- C.T. (ASCP) preferred
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED OR PREFERRED:
- Less than one year required
- 1-3 years preferred
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
Good interpersonal and customer relation skills
Full technical knowledge of Cytology
Ability to read, follow instructions and work independently
