In this Data Analyst role, you'll partner with our Merchandising team to analyze product and segment trends, increasing the value of our product mix and offerings. You'll also support ad-hoc analysis across multiple business areas, including site, marketing, sales, stores and fundraising.

Under the direction of the Senior Policy Planner- Community Health, the Data Analyst will perform a variety of data collection, analysis and reporting activities to support initiatives across the Harris County Public Health (HCPH) organization. The employee will collaborate with staff across HCPH, residents and stakeholders to monitor and assess community health indicators using innovative and streamlined approaches that inform organizational strategy, planning and operations; community health needs assessments and improvement planning; policy development and strategic partnerships.

Evaluates validity and reliability of data; ensures proper comparability of data (e.g. across years, methods, populations); ensures ethical principles and HIPAA compliance in the sharing of data; and develops data sharing agreements as necessary.
Works with traditional and non-traditional partners on innovative solutions for integrating the collection, analysis and/or reporting of community health data with other types of data or information to support comprehensive, multi-sector and resident-engaged approaches to community health improvement.
Works with other data experts across HCPH to identify strategies for optimal use of unexplored data (e.g. open data, HCPH mobile app, social media) and data visualization.

Analyzes quantitative and qualitative education data minimally utilizing Access or Excel, with SQL desired.
Creates requested Ad Hoc reports using business applications such as SAP Business Objects, etc.
Collaborates with system developers and user focus groups to ensure strong communication and feedback loops to inform continual system improvement
Responsible for the management of data dictionaries, data flow diagrams, etc. for all procedures supported by the regional team.
Manages and maintains system documentation related to system requirements, change requests, etc.
Actively participates in identifying and creating systems that lead to efficiencies and improvements in state and district level education data collection, integration and reporting;
Actively participates in user assurance testing procedures in areas of assigned focus and responsibility
Analyzes and reviews current processes to assess operational efficiencies
Proficiency in MS Office products, specifically Access and/or Excel
Demonstrated accuracy and strong attention to detail is a MUST
Strong working knowledge of SAP is a plus
Ability to work with a large volume of data and effectively prioritize the workload
Ability to recognize issues, provide solutions, and drive positive change
Ability to properly execute tasks outlined in a process and escalate issues/problems in a timely manner
Strong problem solving and analytical skills, including the ability to analyze and organize data.
Ability to work autonomously and within a team.

Bachelor's degree or relevant technical certificate required
Prior work experience (2 or more years) gathering, defining, and articulating business requirements
