POSITION: System Control Operator
RESPONSIBLE TO: Operations Manager
DEPARTMENT: System Control
POSITION OUTLINE: Responsible for operating a variety of equipment and systems used in controlling train movements, power distribution and system safety functions. Monitors and evaluates system performance and responds to service interruptions and other emergency conditions. Interfaces with and coordinates patron activities, and security and maintenance procedures.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operates a keyboard computer terminal to interface with the DPM System computer network to monitor and control system operation by analyzing anomaly and status messages and responding thereto; monitors and interprets station platform activities using the Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) System monitor display; coordinates system operations with Maintenance personnel engaged in the performance of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities procedures, including but not limited to coordinating vehicle movement so as not to interrupt guideway service, coordinating computer switchovers, safely removing guideway power for guideway repair, responding to unexpected failures that require multiple and precise actions to quickly restore the system to full service. Use available operational data to help pinpoint causes of problems to expedite troubleshooting; maintains operational logs and reports to provide current status of system and allow post event analysis; communicates with other DPM personnel and passengers using Public Address System, intercom system, DPM radio system or platform telephone system; monitors and controls guideway electrical (600 VOC) power via the SCADA system in coordination with Maintenance, Field Operations and emergency personnel; analyzes system anomalies, determines the proper responses, advises others of proper actions and precautions to take, and coordinates recovery of the system; operates central computer and peripherals to load operating programs, select the proper computer commands, print appropriate data and performs other computer hardware/software functions including but not limited to handling data media, proper operation of panel and console switching and verifying that proper reactions occur; monitors, interprets and verifies that vehicle position indicators on the guideway mimic display and reacts appropriately to vehicle position anomalies. Contacts appropriate emergency response agencies (Police, Fire, Emergency Medical Team) during system anomalies, provides proper notifications of security, maintenance, administration and stores activities as demands indicate; training co-workers and outside agency personnel regarding DPM operational equipment features and procedures; supports investigations and planning regarding system performance, safety incidents, special events which will

cause unusual demands on the system and other areas of concern; recommends revisions to manuals, procedures, and training materials to reflect changes and improvements to System operation; performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Understanding of basic electrical/electronic fundamentals and principles; some familiarity with computer control systems and interfacing and peripheral equipment and how they relate to process or system control functions; effective oral and written communication skills; preferably some knowledge of radio communication systems and moderate size electro-mechanical systems and interfaces; and some knowledge of crowd control methods and procedures.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school graduation or equivalency; some advanced vocational/technical training in electrical principles, computer science, electro-mechanical maintenance and repair, or radio maintenance; a minimum of one (1) year verifiable work experience performing_ similar system control operating and monitoring activities; advanced academic training and related work experience such as operating mainframe computer equipment or a large--scale computer network, operating centralized process control equipment, and repair and maintenance of electro-mechanical systems and components will be considered in determining other acceptable combinations of education and experience.

Continuously standing, walking, sitting, and use of keyboard with repetitive hand motion, able to lift of up to 25lb, as well as able to carry up to 25lb. In addition, you will be responsible for training and work performance of the machine operators assigned to your work area; including training in operational work instructions, production target and quality inspection requirements, work station organization, and relief for breaks and lunches.
