Description NAES Corporation has an opening for an experienced Turbine Engineer at the Luna Energy facility. Luna is a 570 MW natural-gas fired combined cycle generating plant located near Deming, New Mexico. The facility consists of two GE 7FA+e combustion turbines, two single reheat HRSGs with duct firing capability, and one GE D11 steam turbine generator. The facility is equipped with two Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems and dry low-nitrogen oxide gas turbine combustion technology for emissions control. PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
Evaluate thermal performance of gas/steam turbine power output, heat rate, stage pressures, temperatures and component efficiencies utilizing thermodynamic, aerodynamic and fluid mechanics engineering principles demonstrated through hand and computer calculations
Schedule materials, equipment and personnel for plant outages and overhauls. Participate in the planning and scheduling of plant activities to minimize outage time and improve the plant’s performance
Perform computer analysis of operating data to determine the causes of gas/steam turbine performance losses through diagnostic analysis of operational data for both steady-state and transient operation, along with physical inspection results of engine components. This work includes:
Gross performance characterization of major power plant components (GT, ST, HRSG, Condenser).
Detailed analysis of GT performance (compressor & turbine) to be able to identify stage and subcomponent performance losses
Prepare thermal performance testing procedures to demonstrate compliance with contractual performance guarantees which follow the requirements of ASME PTC-22 or ISO 2314 including uncertainty analysis. This includes calculation of GT performance and preparation of performance correction curves.
Support combustion system applications/fuel utilization studies to estimate combustion system and emission control capabilities, including emission control estimates, fuel nozzle pressure losses, and operational troubleshooting. Participate in emission tests for combustion system validation and post outage tuning. Where possible, make recommendations for emission control or operability improvements
Participate in the service and design of fluid systems including the interpretation and creation of Piping and Instrumentation Drawings [P&ID;], system descriptions, component specifications and design review documents for gas turbine service related initiatives, taking into account specific operating characteristics of fluid system components (filters, valves, pumps, compressors, nozzles, etc.) for compressible and incompressible fluids
Maintain turbine history (inspections/reports, outages, specific problems, etc.)
Participate in and/or lead teams that focus on specific problem areas or needs (i.e. Root Cause Analysis)
Be proactive in problem recognition, using independent experience and judgment to provide solution options
Direct and perform routine unit/equipment performance monitoring, testing and make recommendations based on the data collected
Oversee Predictive Maintenance (Pdm) Program in support of unit characteristics and continued operation
Interface with other technical and non-technical personnel, communicating at a technical level that can be understood by the person that is receiving the information. Communications will include oral and written forms
Availability for work after normal working hours, weekends, and holidays as required

Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts, with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, work load and plant conditions. "On call" status will periodically be required. Some travel may be involved to participate in Manager, Owner, User Group, or other offsite meetings. All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility. JOB QUALIFICATIONS We are seeking an individual who has a passion for excellence in plant operations and maintenance. Your work history will demonstrate progressively increasing responsibilities with at least three years of directly related experience in a power plant environment. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education: Bachelor of Science in Engineering with an emphasis on thermal fluids from an accredited college or university
Experience: extensive knowledge of gas/steam turbine engineering including overall turbine configuration, turbine design, boundary conditions, temperatures and materials. Knowledge of the operation, maintenance and repair of gas/steam turbines and their control theories desired (the plant utilizes GE7FA gas turbines and GE D11 steam turbines).
Experience with real-time performance management software such as OSIsoft PI systems to monitor plant heat rate and efficiency. CEMS/DAHS experience desired. Advanced personal computer skills including Microsoft Office, etc.
Reasoning Ability: ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
Communications: adept at communicating with several levels of the organization. Excellent writing and analytical skills and an ability to present facts, conclusions and recommendations in written communications, both in formal and informal formats
