- Gas and Electric Jitney skilled employees are responsible for maintaining and repairing a combination gas-electric, or gas or electric powered jitneys, tractors, and self-propelled yard cranes. Position Summary and Qualifications
Complex, professional supervisory engineering and administrative work directing and supervising the Fort Pierce Utilities Electric Engineering Department. Report to the Director of Electric & Gas Systems.
(NOTE: There are also secondary functions, which the employee will be required to perform.)
Supervises and directs all activities of the Electric and Gas Engineering Department: in engineering studies pertaining to the electrical and gas system and determines the feasibility and basic features of design of major engineering undertakings. Approves the plans, designs and specifications for system improvement work on the distribution, transmission, substations, power generation, SCADA, fiber optic communication, and gas distribution systems. Prepare administrative and technical reports. Directs the department in the following specific items:
Confer with architects or engineers on larger constructions of a commercial nature for pre-planning the distribution, communication (when applicable) and metering systems. Confer with developers of new subdivisions concerning the requirements of services to be provided by the Fort Pierce Utilities Authority.
Oversee the development and maintenance of transmission and distribution maps and geographic information system (GIS) databases for electric, gas, and communication utilities. Specifies items for purchase, furnishes sketches and descriptions of needed easements or right-of-way and makes recommendations concerning purchases. Annually reviews rates and makes recommendations thereon. Reviews and makes recommendations concerning joint-use agreements.
Prepare department capital, personnel, and operating budgets in accordance with the published five-year plan.
Comply with all applicable North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) reliability standards requirements, Florida Reliability Coordinating Council (FRCC) reliability standards requirements, and all FPUA reliability standards. In addition CFR sections 191, 192, and 195 as they pertain to a natural gas system.
Directs department in providing information to graphic and data information system as related to physical facilities, e.g. GIS/ Mapping, records, inventory of facilities for utility distribution and communication systems.

Directs activities of consulting engineer used to supplement departments resources.
Specifies materials and develops engineering standards for electric, gas, and communication utilities.
Directs administration of contracts for distribution, transmission, substations, SCADA and fiber optic communication systems. Directs construction inspection activities and verifies compliance with applicable code requirements.
Directs activity of Engineering Department's participation Electric Standards Committee and verifies compliance with local ordinances, National Electric Safety Code, National Electric Code and CFR standards as applicable to a Natural Gas system.
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering. Ten (10) years electrical engineering experience of a progressively responsible nature, including supervisory experience in the field of electric utilities. A Master's degree in engineering or an MBA is highly desirable.
Registration as a professional engineer in the state of Florida or ability to achieve same within six months of employment. Ability to complete FPUA Gas Distribution training within 1 year of employment.

Examines problems with a disciplined approach and uses the appropriate methodology to analyze and determine the preferred solution to technical challenges.
Reviews test results summaries and recommends action plans to improve product design.
Directs the development of optimal product test plans to ensure robust product safety performance.
Communication – 15%
Prepares testing summary to manager with mitigation plans (if required) to communicate testing status and compliance activities.
Investigates popular point of view when necessary to provide alternative recommendations.
Translates complex technical concepts in simple, clear language appropriate to the audience to gain cross-functional alignment.
Presents emerging compliance requirements to product development team to ensure awareness and understanding of the regulatory landscape.
Organizational Agility – 10%
Participates as representative on cross-functional teams to work seamlessly across boundaries of company, culture, and geography for successful NPD.
Partners with development and delivery organizations to balance the needs of compliance, NPD, productivity, and product derivatives.
Technical Mastery – 20%
Incorporates an intermediate understanding of product specifications, material selection, manufacturing processes, cost constraints, and regulatory and legal landscape (intellectual property) to drive high quality, sustainable, and efficient new product development.
Recommends the architecture and design approach for an entire product to ensure robust product designs.
Generates Computer Aided Design (CAD) models and uses other technical tools as needed to execute business projects/initiatives.
Demonstrates a strong understanding of core discipline and basic knowledge of other disciplines relevant to business segment to drive effective program execution
BS or MS degree in Mechanical Engineering
Proficiency in 3D modeling and CAD
Demonstrates ANSIS or other simulation software experience
Experience in thermal analysis
Experience in plastic design and tolerances
Knowledge of motors & motor control for AC, DC, and BLDC
Knowledge of cordless design for motors, Lithium battery, and speed control systems
Metallurgy and metal forming experience
Experience with selection of materials
Creative problem-solving ability and high mechanical aptitude
Sense of urgency with a commitment to quality and deadlines
Experience with cutting elements
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment
A minimum of 2 years product development experience
Notes: In this position, the ideal candidate would possess professional experience in the clipper industry:
Knowledge of the principals of blade design
Knowledge of metallurgy related to clipper blade design
Knowledge of blade heat treatment process
Knowledge of blade sharpening and lapping processes
Understand UL and other agencies requirement for clippers including EU, LATAM
