A Day in the Life The Model Maker II is a basic level position that supports in-house new product development by creating, fabricating and modifying machine components and prototype models according to engineering specifications. Work in a team oriented, fast paced environment and perform various machining tasks duties of routine nature under general supervision. Successfully performs all functions of a Model Maker I
Constructs low to medium complex precision prototype components and models from raw stock materials to engineering specifications by operating various machining equipment such as Vertical Milling machines, lathes, surface grinders, saws and hand tools as well as various Computer Numeric Control (CNC) equipment
Assemble prototype mock-ups to simulate new product appearance.

JOB SUMMARY: The Model Maker participates in the development of commercial aircraft segment seating and seating environment product models, mockups, and prototypes. The position works within a team to create full-size design properties that are used for design evaluation as well as concept presentation. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Produces accurate, high quality prototypes, models and mockups for part evaluation as well as internal and external presentations, using a variety of shop tools
Works collaboratively with other model makers as well as designers, engineers, and outside resources to solve complex problems
Demonstrates and assures knowledge of model shop safety procedures for shop and individual tool use
Demonstrates PC-based computer knowledge as it applies to model making
Aids in the troubleshooting and modification of elements to resolve any design issues
Supports the company’s vision of creating the highest quality and most innovative new proprietary products
Assists in maintaining an adequate inventory of supplies and materials
Participates in the maintenance of the shop area and equipment to keep the area clean, orderly and safe MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: + 3 years prototype or model making experience performing a role substantially similar to the essential functions of this job description
Proven skills in the creation of high quality models and design evaluators for new product development
Expert in surface and detail part finishing and painting PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Wood and medium to high density urethane board cutting, shaping, routing, and bonding
Metal cutting, forming, drilling, welding, riveting, heat treating, and bonding
Reactive resin casting
Thermoplastic (vacuum) forming
MSDS and hazardous waste management
CNC machine programming and operation

Model Maker III
Support all activities in the New Product Development groups by the fabrication of new parts or the assembly of working Prototype merchandisers, using the necessary equipment to produce a high quality product.
Responsibilities: 1. Work in collaboration with the designer and engineers developing new product using the modular concept to minimize the duplication of component parts and to streamline assembly methods. 2. Manufacture prototype merchandisers using material bills, drawings or sketches. 3.
Effectively, efficiently and safely utilize the equipment in the Model Shop to support all areas of New Product Development to produce parts, prototypes or models. 4. Coordinate efforts with all the areas of manufacturing in the scheduling and procuring components or parts to ensure a timely and efficient completion to assigned projects. 5. Document changes during the prototype stages of developing new product and communicates changes to the designer or engineer assigned to the project. 6.
Assist in the implementation of new products into the manufacturing areas either in Bridgeton or off site manufacturing facilities. REQUIREMENTS: • Must be able to read and comprehend blue prints and material bills. • Must be able to read wiring diagrams and be able to assemble and wire case components. • Must have a basic knowledge of refrigeration components and be certified in brazing. • High School, Associated Degree preferred. • Experience:Model Maker III = 5 yrs. • Certification in refrigerated systems. • EPA certification for refrigerate handling.
