This position is located on-site at Hodges Casting Products in Hodges, SC to provide LPSD EC&S Product Engineering support for components transitioning into the facility. This position will provide a direct interface between EC&S Product Engineers (Design Control owners) and Hodges personnel and will be a key member of the team working to identify and transition castings to Hodges.
The position will interface with Hodges Castings technical, operational, and quality personnel as well as LPSD Product Engineering teams to support transition of castings into the facility. The position will use technical, program management, communication and supply chain / sourcing strategy skills to successfully transition parts into the foundry with associated PPAP. Some travel to other Caterpillar or supplier sites domestically may be required on occasion aligned to the role.

Assist with engineering design project planning (i.e., conceptual design through construction drawing development)
Complete code-required energy compliance and LEED documentation
Conduct engineering calculations, energy analysis, economic analysis, selection and layout of equipment, duct and piping /plumbing system design
Understanding of applications engineering including psychrometrics, refrigeration, acoustics, and controls systems
Assist with coordination of design and installation with Project Management, Construction and Service departments, Controls, and other trade partners.
Field engineering: assist with project execution, site surveys, trade coordination, scheduling, document management and problem-solving
Computer 2D and 3D modeling of HVAC or plumbing systems utilizing the latest modeling software
Effectively and professionally communicate with colleagues and project team members

BS in Engineering or Construction Management
Prior intern experience with the mechanical contractor and/or engineering consultant preferred, but not required
EIT Certificate highly desirable, but not required
Excellent understanding of Engineering fundamentals
Proficiency in AutoCAD or Revit or similar drafting software preferred
Monday through Friday beginning between 7:00 and 8:00 am and ending between 4:00 and 5:00 pm, with one hour for lunch. Eight hours per day is required, and occasional overtime may be necessary.

A Design Engineer is responsible for all design-related activities within projects and programs. These activities include but are not limited to conceptual, preliminary, and final designs. Analysis tools, prototyping practices, and renderings should be used to ensure designs meet quality and customer's expectations.
