The Design Engineer is responsible for designing, evaluating and bringing new products to market for our Sports Medicine business.
What You'll Do
Evaluate customer needs to specify precise new product functional requirements.
Use CAD (Computer Aided Design) systems to model component and assembly designs and produce detailed engineering drawings.
Leverage a range of prototyping and manufacturing methods to produce design candidates. Evaluate design candidates through bench and user testing (mechanical, electromechanical, simulated use, physician labs).
Collaborate with internal manufacturing partners, contract manufacturers, designers, and product specialists to optimize designs for manufacturability. Perform tolerance stackup analysis studies and leads technical design reviews to finalize product and component designs.
Serve as an R&D team member on cross-functional project team to bring design candidate to market. Support design control deliverables, including documentation of design inputs and outputs, design reviews, risk analysis and management, etc.
Design and coordinate standard engineering test and experiments. Train and coordinate R&D technicians to support product testing. Summarize, analyze, and draw conclusions from test results. Prepare test documentation to communicate results to technical community.
Work with the Operations team to support design transfer activities, including identification of critical quality attributes, process validations, PPAP (production part approval process), etc.
Invent/create concepts and designs for new products/processes and submit invention disclosures.

B.S. in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering, or related curriculum
0-4+ years of related design experience
Ability to work independently to plan and schedule own activities to meet project timelines
Ability to work cooperatively with Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Clinical, Marketing and Project Management to ensure project success
Ability to collaborate with peers to leverage and share engineering best practices
Ability to apply knowledge of customer problems to the design process. Understands the basic principles of minimally-invasive surgery.

The position supports the Mechanical Design group in Environmental, Engine & Electrical Systems.
The candidate will be responsible for all Design aspects on a range of pneumatic valve design configurations, provide assistance in the validation & qualification test activity program phase, and field & manufacturing support.
