Stream Restoration Equipment Operator
KBS Earthworks, Inc. is seeking to fill an open position for an equipment operator with experience in stream restoration using heavy earth moving equipment, such as large excavators and dozers, to install in-stream structures, clear timber, construct BMPs, and grade floodplains based on engineered designs.
Requirements
Minimum of 1 year experience working with projects related to the preservation, enhancement, restoration or creation of streams and wetland areas. Must be able to read and follow project design plans to a high level of accuracy, while staying within budget and meeting project deadlines. Must be able to grade and install structures using conventional staking. Experience with GPS machine control is a plus, but is not required. Must possess specific working knowledge of stream construction to include installation of cross vanes, soil lifts, J-hooks, log sills, log vanes, and a variety of other rock and wood structures. Assist in stream assessments and restoration design efforts to develop production schedules to maximize efficiency. Candidate must have strong written and verbal communication skills, working knowledge of regulations (safety, health, environmental, etc.), and work well in a team environment. Exposure to elements, including heat and cold stress, nuisance dust conditions, and woodland, streamside and swampland flora and fauna. Be able to lift up to 75 pounds and possess a valid NC driver's license with a clean driving record. Must pass random drug screenings and background checks. May work up to 12 hours per day. Candidate will be required to occasionally travel within North Carolina and neighboring states, depending on project schedule. A company vehicle, overnight accommodations, and per diem will be provided as needed.
