The Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at The Pennsylvania State University has multiple openings in our Mechanical and Electrical Design Department for PCB Engineering Designers. Responsibilities include:
Support intermediate to complex research engineering programs (depending on level) utilizing computer aided design, documentation, and/or database software tools; create electronic components, schematics, printed wiring boards, circuit card assemblies, bills of materials, and other documentation using accepted methods and techniques; conceptualize, design, integrate, and package mechanical and electrical components into assemblies as part of larger systems in collaboration with R&D engineers, engineering support specialists, and senior department employees; utilize computer aided design software to create design documentation including notes and manufacturing information, and ensure work is in compliance with accepted standards; participate in resolving system design conflicts, requests for information, and/or participate in design review meetings, as requested; and perform department tasks related to copying, filing, and database entry including classified and unclassified documentation control. This job will be filled as a level 2, level 3, or level 4, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Associate's degree or higher in a Drafting or related discipline or higher plus three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs.
An Associate's degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology, or Drafting and Design Technology is desired. Experience in the following is preferred: Altium PCB software (v18) or a similar design tool; Microsoft Office Excel and Access; and for higher levels, Impedance Matching, RF circuit design, and PCB fabrication practices.

Skills and experience required for this role include:
Basic understanding of networking. How to use a termination session application. Detail focused. Willingness to learn and work well within the team as well as boundary partners. Not required but beneficial are knowledge of Telcordia Inventory System.
Ability to travel locally to Spectrum Intern development events and activities throughout the program
Housing and transportation (These are not provided by Spectrum)
Oral and written skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
Scripting and reporting
Software development skills, SDLC
Works well in a team environment
Works well independently
Willing to gain knowledge of Server Hardware, DNS, Networking and Active Directory technologies
