Die Casting Process Engineer
Develops processes to support the Safety Systems Division in their efforts to increase productivity and quality by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Introduce all measures necessary to maintain best possible standards and process-reliable conditions in a highly automated, High-pressure Die Casting process. Responsible for supporting die designs, set-up samples and trial evaluations, including replacement dies or new model dies.
Participate in the development and implementation of improvement plans that target cycle time reductions and minimalize scrape. Experience with Die Cast tooling. Ability to manage die design and manufacture of Die Cast dies and all of its components.
Conducts activities to assure quick delivery, on-time launch/prototype parts of continually improving quality. Interface with design personnel at development stage to suggest designs that will improve efficiency and reduce cost. Communicate with quality assurance in developing dimensional, ES testing specifications to point out potential high scrap items and deal with them before design in complete.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B. S. / B.A.) from four-year College or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as drawings, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write trial reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY AND PROBLEM SOLVING SYNTHESIS
Ability to define problems, collect data, analyze data and form hypothesis. Must have ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or sketched form.

Die Setter Apprentice
Assist with set up and maintenance of mechanical and hydraulic presses used for the powdered metal operations of compacting and sizing. Must learn to use the proper dies, tools and automation required and make all necessary adjustments, to ensure that quality parts are being produced at designated production levels.
Become proficient in setup and maintain correct adjustments on several presses
Demonstrate continued knowledge growth with abilities to use of proper tools and dies are placed into the press
Assist with performing visual inspection of parts for cracks and chips several times during the shift
Become proficient with setup in a timely manner
Have ability to communicate with shift supervisors, machine operators and quality department, changes / adjustments made to the presses
Properly fill out tool forms when needed
Attend meetings and training classes when needed
Any other duties assigned by the Shift Supervisor
Actively participate in GKN continuous improvement efforts as they relate to quality, safety, 5S, environmental and production efficiency
Complete the OSHA-approved safety course to become a certified forklift operator
Other duties as assigned.

This role also requires reading and understanding of inspection prints for first piece approval and part prints to make adjustment to equipment if needed, and submission of samples to Quality Control in a timely manner.

Set-up and operation of stamping presses
Reading and understanding inspection print for first piece approval and part print to make adjustments to equipment if needed
Reading and understanding control plans and work instructions as stated by ISO/TS requirements
Must have excellent housekeeping skills and of shop safety at all times.
Ability to make or exceed required rates and set up times
Work with supervisor to improve set up process/ repairs
Retrieval of required tooling from die storage rack
Setting up jobs in accordance with shop paper and/or press setup instructions
Verification that setups are complete and safety measures are in place
Submission of samples to Quality Control in a timely manner
Reporting of setup time to production scheduler
Assisting production operators and tool room personnel when necessary
Stopping production when known or suspected nonconforming conditions exist

Experience and knowledge of Wintress and Link 2500 programmable limits, for die safety and feeder programing.
Forklift certification or knowledge of forklift, will be certified through our company if needed.
Strong oral and written communication skills, bilingual a plus.

Project Engineer - Die Casting And Permanent Mold
Contributes to the attainment of plant objectives through application of engineering principles to improve productivity and reduce manufacturing costs in the aluminum Die Casting department. As the project manager, sets technical direction for mechanical design and development of products in support of cost, schedule, and performance goals. Acts as the communication point person for customers and manufacturing concerning engineering and quality issues.
Provides engineering leadership for current and new projects involving the Die Casting department.
Establishes engineering and product design standards for manufacturability.
Acts as the liaison between the customer, manufacturing, quality and the tool shop to resolve drawing and/or tooling questions.
Monitors tool construction to ensure on-time delivery to customers.

Starts and operates furnace, oven, die-casting, core making, metal molding, or rotating machines to pour metal or create molds and casts.
Removes casting from mold, mold from press, or core from core box, using tongs, pliers, hydraulic ram, or by inversion.
Pours or loads metal or sand into melting pot, furnace, mold, core box or hopper, using shovel, ladle, or machine.
Inspects metal casts, and molds for cracks, bubbles, or other defects and measures castings to ensure specifications met.
Sprays, smokes, or coats molds with compounds to lubricate or insulate mold, using acetylene torches or sprayers.
Skims or pours dross, slag, or impurities from molten metal, using ladle, rake, hoe, spatula, or spoon.
Assembles shell halves, patterns, and foundry flasks, and reinforces core boxes, using glue, clamps, wire, bolts, rams, or machines.
Fills core boxes and mold patterns with sand or powders, using ramming tools or pneumatic hammers, and removes excess.
Positions, aligns, and secures molds or core boxes in holding devices or under pouring spouts and tubes, using hand tools.
