Tool & Die Maker
Plan sequence of operation, layout, develop, fabricate, assemble, inspect and proof tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures. Investigate, analyze and resolve tooling issues in Manufacturing. Understand and practice all current safety requirements and use of PPE in the shop environment.
Work from tool design prints, sketches, and/or engineering information and/or utilize standard shop practice/procedure to produce and repair tools, fixtures, and special guiding and holding devices to support production requirements. Plan the sequence of operations; determine proper tools, equipment and material to manufacture tooling.
As required, supply information lacking on the design, print or sketch. Work with Supervision, Liaison and engineering personnel to devise layouts and methods of producing tools. Set-up and operate various machine tools for the machining of tools, dies and fixtures. Must be familiar with the machining properties, such as hardness and heat tolerance, of a wide variety of common metals, alloys, plastics, and other materials. Utilize shop mathematics and trigonometry.
May suggest design improvements or material substitutions to proper personnel, solve complicated tooling problems. Plan material availability, assemble and verify final features to ensure the highest levels of quality and cost management. Must be able to perform finishing tasks, such as filing, grinding, and polishing. Investigate problems attributed to faulty tooling, check tools and/or materials to determine root cause and collaborate with cognizant personnel. Must have a general understanding of the mechanics of machinery. Prepare and maintain documentation and reports required to perform the duties described.
High School diploma, GED or equivalent
Minimum of 5 years' experience as a Tool Maker or 8 years experience as a Master Machinist or have graduated from a state registered apprenticeship program
Demonstrated ability to set-up and operate manual machine tools such as: lathe, mill, surface grinder, jig bore

Strong blueprint reading skills and GD&T interpretation and application.
Inspect individual tooling details and final assemblies with use of precision measuring equipment.

Tool And Die Maker
The FRAM Group-Autolite facility in Spartanburg, SC, is looking for an experienced Tool & Die Maker for the various aspects of manufacturing. Work with tools, dies, prototypes and/or models to repair tooling. Operate CNCs, read gauges, and test completed projects for close tolerances.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications of tools, dies, prototypes or models
Provide close production support, such as troubleshooting and repair of production machines
Compute dimensions and tolerances and set up machine tools
Set up, operate and maintain a variety of conventional and (CNC) machine tools to cut, turn, mill, drill, bore, grind or otherwise shape work piece to prescribed dimensions and finish
Verify machined parts for conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments such as Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM), vernier calipers, micrometers, and electronic measuring devices
Fit and assemble or disassemble parts using hand tools
Test completed tools, dies, jigs or fixtures for proper operation
Able to work within close tolerances +/- .0005
Action oriented with proven track record for resolving tool/die issues in a demanding manufacturing environment

This position is one of learning, practice and retaining of the basic tool making skills and knowledge leading up to a practicing Journeyman status. To include the understanding, principles and applications of basic Blanking Tools, Forming Tools and Assembly Tools. Assists Journeyman & Master Toolmakers with steel tooling component preparations.

Primary Function: Support production by ensuring dies are sharpened and repaired in a timely manner to produce quality parts.
Perform all duties required to plan, layout, construct, alter, repair 75% of in-house tooling including molds, progressive, and compound dies with no guidance and drives the department PM program
Possesses a strong understanding of how dies work and strong die troubleshooting skills
Work from sketches, prints, die design layouts, piece part drawings or actual parts using reverse methods of tool making
Work with manual machines such as lathes, mills. Grinders, etc.
Follow instructions and plan accordingly to use most efficient procedures and methods to accurately machine parts with no guidance

Plan and construct a wide variety of tools, dies, fixtures and gauges to very close tolerances, or construct more complex units where design is available.
