To serve as the primary point of communication between patients, nursing staff, and others and Food Services department; and to accurately process meal requests as ordered, ensuring the patient's special diet needs are met.
A high school diploma or its equivalent is required, with course work to include English, mathematics and grammar. Must be able to read with comprehension, write legibly and perform simple arithmetic calculations. Must be familiar with general office practices such as accurate filing and effective general office machine usage, and must possess excellent telephone skills. Must be capable of performing repetitive clerical tasks on a continuous basis. Must show good judgment and reliability and be able to work without direct supervision.
Experience: A minimum of six months' experience in a clerical position is preferred.
Licensure: None is required.
The Nutrition Services Diet Clerk/Room Service Operator assists patients with ordering of meals via telephone or in person via tablet, utilizing computer software program Cbord, thus ensuring compliance with diet ordered. The Diet Clerk/Room Service Operator works closely with the Clinical Dietitians to provide the patient with an excellent and safe dining experience. Excellent customer service skills, attention to detail, computer knowledge, and telephone skills are very important in this position.

Processes, modifies, collects, and check patient menus for each meal, updating menus with most current information to assure compliance with dietary modification and restrictions.
Maintain effective communication with patient and family. Ensures patients are informed about diet and additional food item availability.
Maintains computer systems with accurate and current data.
