The Office of Laboratory Animal Research (OLAR) has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Cage Wash Operator position.
This full-time, University Staff (non-classified) Cage Wash Operator ensures clean and sterilized laboratory animal supplies, cages, and equipment is available for research projects by assisting with cage wash operations. The position will physically load and unload caging on cage wash conveyor belts; assist with the operation of the cage wash room, which contains multiple large steam sterilizers, rack washers, index washers, robotic equipment, vacuum disposal and bedding dispensers. Operate sterilizers to sterilize the equipment and supplies. Assist with operating and trouble-shooting electronic equipment. Ensure proper sanitation of the cage wash area by following standard operating procedures.
Examples of Work Performed:
Perform work that is mechanical and physical in nature and frequently standing, walking, squatting, bending, and reaching. Constantly lift and carry 10 lbs. and frequently lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Push and pull material handling carts that house animal cages. Assemble and disassemble material handling carts generated by and for the animal care staff. Perform basic equipment repairs and preventive maintenance on machinery, material handling carts and various housing racks. Load and unload items on a pallet. Utilize equipment throughout the facility such as a pallet jack, drum dolly, dip tank, pressure washer, Strahman hoses, foamer and dolly (two-wheeler).
Assemble and tear down sterile and non-sterile animal cages and equipment. Check and fill the animal bedding dispenser on the loading dock. Handle and dispose of soiled animal bedding and animal waste from rodent cages. Provide clean cages and bins for aquatic animal species. Prepare nesting material for mice, hamsters, gerbils, rats, or rabbits. Operate a radio and/or PTT to update staff on progress of work.
Perform cleaning and maintenance duties on the cage wash equipment such as: drain tanks and washing units; check and clean filters in index and rack washers; clean/maintain conveyor system in the cage wash; use alkaline detergents, acid and acid neutralizers; use proper cleaning agent dilutions; Maintain Clidox station and fill foot sanitation bath. Handle hazardous chemicals, animal waste, infectious materials, and/or human blood or bodily materials. Wearing hearing protection, eye protection and N95 is required for some tasks in this position.
Clean various areas within the CCM facility by sweeping, mopping, floor buffing, and trash removal. Also assisting with laundering, folding, and putting away surgical drapes, scrubs, and any other supplies used within the facility.
Preparation of all animal carcasses for disposal in the tissue digester at least once a week. Ensure that freezers are emptied, thawed, cleaned and sanitized at least once a month.

Arodo Technician (Process Operator V) – The competencies / job requirements below are specific to team members who are sub-classified as "Arodo Mechanic-Operators"In addition all Process Operator IV competencies / job requirements
Acts as emergency backup to Arodo operations due to team member's absence.
Must be available to travel and assist in ARODO operations at other sites as needed.
Works alternate shifts for training and/or equipment troubleshooting, as necessary.
Coordinates and schedules PMS, PDM and repairs with the Maintenance team.
Ensures all PMs and inspections are performed properly and accurately.
Performs periodic PM audits to ensure inspections are performed as required.
Maintains Spare Parts min/max inventory to assure equipment downtime is minimized.
Coordinates ordering Arodo Repair Parts through Maintenance department.
Acts as focal decision point for all Arodo operational and maintenance activities.
Actively supports Production Supervisor in guiding the Arodo Department's Organization, Dependability, Productivity, Quality, 5S, and Safety across all shifts.
Formally trains Arodo Operator-Trainees through fully certified Operator-Mechanic program; and provides refresher training as necessary.
Trains Arodo Operator-Trainees and Operator-Mechanics on Arodo equipment/process changes or corporate updates / requests.
Acts as the primary Arodo Resource to other facilities.
Acts as Arodo point of contact to Corporate Engineering.
Continually maintains high proficiency with all Arodo Equipment electrical / mechanic features.Knowledge,
Skills and Competencies Required

Statistical Process Control: Understands various SPC tools (Control charts, Standard deviation, Cpk, etc.) and has the ability to use them for analysis and trend identification. Have a proficient knowledge of mechanical processes and be able to perform relevant calculations and analyses to assist in operation, sizing, and troubleshooting of processes and process equipment.
Able to manage work environment in order to increase efficiency; able to plan and coordinate work and activities in an optimal manner to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and timely.
Performs services and/or produces product to meet the target performance levels established; within cost/budget, on time, within specification, and in the required quantity.
Adheres to MAPEI's Quality Management System (QMS) program requirements (Quality Manual, Procedures, Work instructions, Records) as directed.
Approaches work activities with an eye for continually improving product and/or services rendered.
Performs responsibilities and documentation requirements completely and without error, providing accurate work as a priority. Adheres to OSHA standards and complies with MAPEI's internal EH&S program requirements.

Under strict supervision, assists during rigging-up and rigging-down of cementing service equipment on work locations to include spotting of cement storage vessels, pre-mixing of spacer fluids, rigging-up appropriate data monitoring equipment. Learns the operation of some or all of the following: cement pumping and mixed equipment, blenders, liquid additive metering systems, centrifugal pumps, data acquisition systems, Automatic Density Control (ADC) systems, bulk cement blending, delivery and storage systems, manifold equipment, and cementing plug releasing tools.
Assists in the performance of pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and associated paperwork/reports. Job tasks, correctly performed, have minimal impact upon the viability of the organization. Error is readily ascertainable by the supervisor and can be corrected.
Skills are typically acquired through successful completion of high school or similar education. Licensure to drive commercial equipment may be required. May require I-Learn courses:
Essential Mathematics, Red Book, and Cementing 1. Given the nature of oil field service work, the ability to communicate effectively with others is necessary. The ability to perform basic mathematical calculations involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division is required.
Basic reading comprehension and writing skills are required.
Basic computer skills are preferred. This is the entry level position into the service operator job family.
