Advanced Radio Frequency Micro-Electronics Technical Director
Job Description Technology Solutions is seeking a technical director to guide the initial development stages of future radio frequency, microwave and mm-wave microelectronics. This will involve working with customers to define user needs and development challenges, generate proposals, identify and select of research approaches to evaluate and mature component technology, assess the concept feasibility as well as the transition potential of technology, and assess overall relevance and value of developmental technologies.
Primary responsibilities are the development of advanced frequency micro-electronics and system-on-chip semiconductor technologies supporting national security mission needs. Position responsibilities include the identification and understanding of both known and unknown performance gaps for these technologies as well as the development of technology maturation and transition strategies to develop systems that can close these gaps. Accomplishing these goals will involve a mix of: working with both internal and external experts to understand mission needs, identification of possible transition platforms and partners, evaluating alternative architectures, originating and developing operational systems concepts and conceptual designs, reviewing system performance and validation approaches, reviewing and refining systems- and subsystem-level requirements, assessing system and subsystem risk, recommending and overseeing corporate internal investments, and supporting the integration and demonstration of new systems.
New hiresare expected to lead the RF micro-electronics thrust as well as work with and coordinate the efforts of senior research staff members in the electronic warfare area. They will initially lead small work groups or program teams focused on airborne applications , and grow to leadership of large cross-domain and corporate wide efforts. Cross-domain efforts will include both multiple environments (airborne, surface, subsurface, etc) as well as several different communities of interest (such as cyber, autonomy, etc). The individual will be responsible for identifying areas of potential new technical growth (such as silicon RF electronics) and hiring the subject matter experts necessary to execute and pursue work in these areas.
The work environment is fast-paced and presents many technical challenges as well as significant growth opportunities. Successful technical contributors will be comfortable working in multi-disciplinary teams across disparate locations, presenting ongoing work and concepts to peers and to customers for critical review, and contributing to and leading proposals for new projects. The work also requires a large degree of discretion, autonomy, and entrepreneurial spirit.
