Machine Operator I Exterior Door Production
Operates specialized machines such as door router, stair router, welder, plate cutter, table saws, planer jointer and component cutter necessary to perform such operations as routing, boring, ripsawing, cross cutting, beveling, grooving, and mitering of lumber or woodstock.
- Selects and sets proper machine control settings/part(s) as needed, (e.g, placing correct disk on saw, setting guides, etc.) and according to type of work order and specification of cut.
*Selects material to be machined (e.g., beams, headers, studs, fire blocking, plates, blocks, doors, lumber). Places woodstock on table against proper guides, and pushes stock against saw or machine for cutting.
*Measures cut stock with ruler, caliper rule or square to verify dimensions against specifications and sets proper dimensions on automated machine settings. Cuts, routes, bores, etc. the woodstock material or product (doors) according to written or computer specifications on lengths, angles and dimensions.
*Removes cut stock from machine and places on job carts and delivers carts to proper location or team member for shipment or further work.
*Maintains production count by marking completed work on correct work order and delivering paperwork to team leader or manager.
*Clean equipment, floors and work areas according to safety procedures.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED), plus one-year (1) prior work experience and in millwork, construction or lumber industries and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. Six-monhts (6) prior work xperience on machines. Ability to demonstrate good mechanical aptitude and understanding of products and components used for mill production is essential.

Position Summary: An integral part of the Production Center team, the Production Operator is responsible for producing and finishing large, high quality copy and print orders for an array of customers. Perform various duties to operate horizontal electric controlled atmosphere furnaces, vertical heat treating equipment for continuous hardening and tempering various sizes, following prescribed standard methods, practices and procedures. Work from coil identification tags, specifications, various charts, tables, established procedures, written or verbal instructions. Use micrometers, vernier calipers, overhead electric hoists, hand electric truck, various furnace speed and temperature controls and direct reading instruments, Set-ups require threading of leader through furnace, adjustments to speeds, tensions, air flow, oven temperatures, water temperature and pressure to achieve prescribed operating conditions. Calibrate induction heating unit periodically.
Check all coil ID tags for correct specifications and to assure completion of previous operations. Set feed rate and check speed with stop watch. Use overhead hoist to place coil on play out table. Join start of new coil to end of preceding coil by resistance butt welding for continuous operation. Check direct reading instruments for temperature and monitor nitrogen atmosphere make up. As necessary, make adjustments to air jets, induction coils, etc. Cut section from each coil and check teeth and gullet for visual defects. Use vernier caliper to check stretch against reference chart. Secure hardened coils with wire and place on tempering rack. Fill out all appropriate coil / temper tickets and travelers. Transport full racks to tempering area.

ROLE: The primary responsibility of a Millwork Machine Operator is to safely and accurately produce wood components and products by operating and maintaining machine work centers as part of a production team.
Operate power saws, planers, presses and moulder machinery as assigned to produce quality wood products.
Effectively work both alone and within a team to complete production requirements.
Conduct setups, periodic maintenance, calibration and tolerance checks on production machinery.
Maintain a safe, clean and organized work center.
Efficiently and accurately manage work flow to meet production timelines and order due dates.
Perform all duties in a safe manner in accordance with company, state and federal safety standards and regulations.
A positive and engaged attitude.
Ability to read English and follow instructions.
Consistently able to lift and move 50+ pounds.
Ability to do basic math using decimal-based inch measurement, and read a tape measure and digital caliper.
Ability to Learn product materials, component manufacturing specifications, wood species and how to identify defects for quality control.
Comfortable performing some repetitive motions and stand operating machinery for a full shift.
A strong woodworking and/or mechanical aptitude.
Pass a pre-employment drug test, including screening for marijuana use.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
Wage depends on prior woodworking or machinery operation experience (includes a per-hour shift differential).
