The incumbent reads and interprets customer order information. This position processes orders for production and customer submittal drawings, consistent with Valmont standard practices, in the low to moderate range of complexity, and prepares the necessary drawings and other data for the teams, other departments and the manufacturing facilities, as well as interfaces, under supervision from the Division Drafting Manager/Drafting Site Manager, directly with other company departments on customer order and manufacturing problems. Limited customer contact may be required to aid the design/order process.
The Drafting Department is responsible for processing drawings for customers and the manufacturing facilities while maintaining the company objectives for quality and lead-time. This Individual Contributor role must interact with people in all departments in order to maintain amiable and profitable relationships in inter-departmental communication. The incumbent will, with required supervision, read and interpret customer specifications, plans and other order information to determine the format required to complete customer orders.
He/she will be responsible for reporting any inconsistent, conflicting or missing customer information to the Drafting Manager or a Senior Design Drafter. All Associate Design Drafter work must be checked by a Drafting Manager, Senior Design Drafter or Design Drafter. This position is not allowed to check any work.
The incumbent shall have knowledge of departmental and company goals, policies and procedures and the product lines represented. Deviations from these shall be minimal and only when beneficial to the department, division and company. This position is important to the results of the department and the division.
The incumbent is allowed to establish work routines and/or schedules, within company policies, in order to maintain efficient order flow. He/she may identify, recommend and help develop revisions to standard product designs, drafting procedures and systems to improve the department and the division. Essential Functions:

Provides cost estimates to other Division of the County prior to beginning projects;
Represents the Construction Branch at various local and state meetings;
Participates in local and state meetings to coordinate projects with VDOT and Prince William County;;
Obtains price quotes and prepares task orders for preparation for sub-contractors for materials to be obtained to complete projects uninterrupted;
Prepares equipment for snow removal and sets schedules for the winter season to ensure that the Construction Services crews as well as the equipment is prepared to respond to emergencies;
Prepares an emergency procedure plan for construction crews; maintains the County's Storm Water System and facilities;
Monitors, prepares and oversees budget for the Construction Services Branch and procurement of materials.

Education and Experience
Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Architecture or an Engineering discipline required by a specific engineering position or related engineering field (i.e., architectural); and 3-5 years professional engineering work experience in departmental areas such as Planning and/or Public Works; or areas which would be applicable to department needs and 2-3 years supervisory experience supervising professional level personnel.
Must have experience in developing vehicle travel forecasting models, when applicable.
Must possess a licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Virginia, if applicable to the position.
Must possess a valid driver's license.
Must pass DMV record check.
Must possess an Architectural License, if applicable to the position.
Must obtain a license to practice as a Virginia Licensed Architect within one year of employment, if applicable to the position.

In this position, the candidate will perform as a member of an integrated engineering project team to apply electrical and mechanical design skills and techniques using CAD software. This role facilitates the development of engineering design drawings and specifications as needed to support continuous growth and improvement of the Specific Manufacturing Capability (SMC) project.
The successful candidate will create and revise technical drawings to support design or modification of structures, systems, and/or components (SSCs) that enable SMC to fulfill its manufacturing mission for the United States Army. The position requires the ability to work within the design process from preparation of conceptual designs to as-building of completed working systems with appropriate direction. The work load is demanding, fast paced and will provide a variety of design challenges on a continually changing basis.
Must be a US Citizen and be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy (DOE) "L" security clearance
Associate's Degree or Vocational Certificate in Drafting and 1 year of relevant experience
Working knowledge of CAD 2D and 3D software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Pro/Engineer)
Requires the application of electrical and mechanical engineering design and layout skills and techniques
Basic knowledge of nationally recognized standards associated with drawing and specification convention/interpretation such as ANSI Y14.5
Requires experience in the practical application of the Configuration Management aspects of construction vs operational documentation
Requires the ability to type 20 words per minute
Must be experienced in the use of Microsoft office software

Controls Design Drafter
The Controls Designer/Drafter (CD) is responsible for the design, layout, and subsequent drafting packages for combustion control systems with an emphasis on electrical/instrumentation design. Duties include participating in turnover meetings, coordination and discussion with Controls Engineers/Project Engineers, efficient schedule management of tasking, and delivering finished control system packages for engineering review.
The Rapid Execution group specializes in delivering quality OEM equipment packages to both domestic and international customers in short lead times. Project portfolios can include various complex systems that must be delivered in critical windows to keep customers operational. Order complexity and available delivery varies, as well as day to day operations during execution. The CD will interact closely with internal Project, Controls, and Applications engineering teams during the project lifecycle. Once an order is released to the execution team, the CD will take the job turnover package with relevant notes from Project Engineering and Controls Engineering to generate an initial draft of the combustion control system. Tasking will be given directly from Controls Engineers as well as the Controls Engineering Manager; Project Engineering may be involved in various tasking dependent on scheduling and complexity of efforts. Once design is complete and finalized for release, additional work may be required throughout project lifecycle based on various factors including scope creep, change orders, standardization, etc.
Our customers rely on proactive efforts and communication as most often they are dealing with equipment requirements that are a critical path with direct impact to their revenue stream. This position enables the CD to function in a role that is professionally fulfilling and keeps them engaged in execution throughout the project lifecycle. With exposure to the large product portfolio offered within this department, our personnel see exponential experience gain compared to the same timeline with equivalent positions.

Confirm equipment selection, design, and operation as quoted/sold to customer.
Coordinate with internal engineering teams on equipment and component selection for design of the combustion control system.

The Design Drafter Intern is responsible for assisting on an implementation project for transferring over Engineering Design documentation.
