Your day to day
Your day-to-day responsibilities include drafting duties for our Research and Development team and assisting engineers and configuration management to drive engineering change orders to completion. You should be detail-oriented with strong mechanical aptitude and able to take ownership of engineering documentation, as well as have organizational, communication, and time-management proclivity. Daily activities include the development and maintenance of detailed design drawings and mechanical specifications using the SolidWorks CAD package, and managing change orders through PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) software.
Associates Degree OR 2 year technical degree in Computer Aided
Drafting/Design or similar education
3+ years drafting experience
Proficiency with SolidWorks 2D & 3D packages
Solidworks CSWP certification or higher
Knowledge with PDM (Product Data Management) Pro or similar CAD management software
Knowledge in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME-Y14.5 1994-2009 standard
Significant experience detailing and documenting complex electro-mechanical designs
Experience in manufacturing or engineering product development environment
Machining and tooling-oriented background with knowledge in a variety of inspection methods
Working knowledge of injection molding and electro-mechanical part design detailing
Knowledge of engineering stack-up/tolerance analysis

Major Areas of Accountability:
Works from notes, verbal instructions, sketches and drawings, existing CAD models, or engineering specifications; consolidates the information to be used to prepare working plans, BOMs, layouts and detailed drawings.
Reviews the design and helps resolve the details not completely defined. Determines the best combination of all the preliminary information and contributing data to develop the final design.
Develops specifications, designs or drawings using engineering principals, established MTS standards, procedures, and instructions. Follows MTS best practices, policies and procedures in the design, layout, and documentation of MTS custom and standard products.
Provides the required level of documentation for custom or standard projects. Specific tasks may include making models, drawings and assemblies and Bill of Materials using the CAD system and other computer tools, as required. Follows all MTS CAD Best Practices for model creation, drawing creation, file management, and revision control.
Verifies completed work; checks dimensions, Bills of Materials, materials to be used, quantities, processing information, and adherence to Best Practices.
Makes reasonable and sound decisions to meet budgets (both labor and cost) and deadlines. Provides scheduling, costing and technical information concerning the designs supported as well as status updates and information to internal departments and external vendors affected by design development.
Resolves mechanical and fabrication problems with designed or purchased parts used in a design. Assures that any changes are documented and prepared in accordance with engineering change procedures and in a timely manner.
Develops and maintains effective communications and working relationships with all levels of employees. Provides regular feedback and updates to project team members and immediate supervisor about the status of design tasks.
Associates degree or vo-tech certificate in mechanical design and 2+ years drafting/design experience; or high school or GED and 6+ yrs relevant mechanical design experience
Experience with GD&T (ASME Y14.5)
Experience with SolidWorks, PTC Creo, or other parametric CAD software.
- Experience with manufacturing processes and machining equipment (mills, lathes, CNC, etc.)
- Experience with engineering change processes and documentation (ECN & ECO)

This individual will prepare engineering documentation from design layouts and models including Bills of Material (BOM) and drawings of parts, assemblies, and final assemblies that illustrate the assigned components and products.

Prepare Material Masters and BOM's, then enter information in the enterprise software (SAP).
Perform Product Information Management (PIM) tasks.
Make revisions to CAD models and drawings as described by the Engineering Change Master (ECM).
Make revisions to the BOM as described by the ECM.
Perform more complex CAD tasks; for example wiring diagrams, wiring routings, hose routings, schematics, and mechanisms.
Assist design teams in writing ECM's as requested.
Create more complex parts and design layouts on project assignments.
Perform drafting assignments with minimal guidance.
Identify and recommend potential solutions to problems.
Review work for accuracy of dimensioning, neatness, and attention to details.
Identify and apply Lean methodologies to ensure processes are scientifically controlled and continuously improved.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Associates degree or equivalent from two year college or technical school that includes CAD training; or eighteen months experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be a proficient CAD technician and have technical ability in math. Previous experience with Pro Engineer desired, but not required. Mechanical aptitude is preferred. Knowledge and application of GD&T is preferred.

Prepare complex electrical schematics, panel arrangement layouts, electrical wiring diagrams, detail drawings, punch details and all related documentation.
Proficient with Cad software applications requirements
- Micro Station V8i, Bentley
- Substation, AutoCAD R2010 or higher. Optional
- Pro/Engineer, SolidWorks 2007 version or
Drawings designed under the direction of project engineer, drafting supervisor, and/or drafting coordinator, per project specifications. Such drawings might include but are not
Single and three line AC schematics
AC & DC elementary diagrams
Wiring diagrams – device point to point termination configuration
Equipment mounting plates, drill plan details, and assemblies
Bill of Materials, Circuit Schedules, Wire label lists, Nameplate schedules
Prepare layout drawing of panel assemblies, apply critical dimensions to create new
Cad drafting experience requires a minimum of five years
AutoCAD 2010 or higher
Micro Station V8i cad software, two years Bentley Substation cad software.
Knowledge of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical detail/assembly drawings. Microsoft Office Excel and Microsoft Word.
